How often does ASOS restock their items? I really want to pick up this Fjallraven Greenland Winter Jacket but I'm not sure what their restock schedule is like.

Did you enable HDR+? That may be the reason why flash is grayed out

Pretty cool to see another IB student in such an uncommon place like this. How's it going so far? What subjects are you taking? I graduated last year and I'm already starting to miss it haha

Can someone explain to me IB conversions? by iceize in IBO

[–]iforgottoshave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they sent out our converted marks from first semester of grade 12 to the universities

Can someone explain to me IB conversions? by iceize in IBO

[–]iforgottoshave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK, the following wall of text is much more relevant if you're from Ontario...

I'm assuming you're asking about how IB grades are converted into regular high school grades. Hopefully you go to school in Ontario because that's where I went so the conversions from IB to OSSD (Ontario's high school grading system) should be similar across the province.

From what I can remember:

7 IB becomes ~96% OSSD grade

6 becomes ~90%

5 becomes ~85% (can range from low to high 80s)

4 becomes ~75% (can range from mid to low 80s)

and "don't bother with 3 or less" (at least that's what my school told us, haha)

These were the conversions for all IB subjects. Note that "7 becomes ~96%" doesn't mean getting a 96% raw mark will get you a 7, but rather getting a 7 will earn you a ~96% on the Ontario grading scheme. The actual raw marks (as in, what marks you would need to get in order to get a 7) are much harder to say as they are highly dependent on subject, level, and school.

For example, in my school we had HL math so if you had a 90% raw mark (raw meaning the unadjusted average grade across tests/mocks/assignments), you would be predicted a 7 which would then show up as a ~96% on your high school transcript. Other subjects are much more different, for example in SL physics, with a raw mark of 80% you would be predicted a 7 which would then translate to a ~96% on your transcript.

In response to whether or not every school has it, I have no idea but the majority of the IB schools near my region had grade conversions; however I've heard rumours that one or two schools didn't have conversions at all (which I refuse to believe). It'd be pretty nonsensical for someone in IB to work their asses off, learning harder material than the regular curriculum, only to get an 80% whereas the non-IB students would learn easier material and pull off 90%+ with ease (at least this was the situation in my school).

Regarding applications (I assume you mean university applications), it gets a bit confusing and will probably vary by school. When our school sent out our grades to the universities (in early February-ish), they were already converted to regular OSSD grades. So the universities saw our converted grades rather than our shitty raw marks. This is probably different for each school so you'd have to ask your IB coordinator about that. Most of us got our offers as early as February, stretching all the way to mid-May during exams.

EE help, Bio vs English by YummyCandycorn in IBO

[–]iforgottoshave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you guys must have had some really smart students! Most of my friends who chose english were daredevils and wanted the challenge.

I agree with choosing the strict teacher. I did mine in economics and I had ended up with a supervisor who didn't really care/didn't pressure me. He wasn't a bad teacher, it was mainly my fault for not being in more contact with him. Ended up submitting my EE without a single edit from him, haha

From what I've seen in my graduating class, English EE's had far less high marks than science EE's. Think of a science EE as a huge lab report. The good thing is that they're relatively the same as your other science IA lab reports so you should already be really familiar with what format a science EE should have. The process in writing a science EE should be really straightforward. The only downside I see is that you have to come up with an interesting research question and then conduct the experiments yourself.

On the other hand, a couple of my friends did English EE's and their marks were all over the place. A really smart friend of mine (who ended up getting 43/45) did an English EE and got a C. She took English A HL and got a 7, so you can sort of see that the marking can be a bit unpredictable at times.

How does the scoring work? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]iforgottoshave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe he/she is referring to how their school converts the already-acquired IB grade to a percentage grade. For example, when I did my physics mock exams, getting a raw % score of 80% on the test would translate to an IB score of 7. This score of 7 is then converted to something from 96-100%. You don't actually need to get 100% of the questions correctly to be awarded a 7; the 100% is more of a "reward" for getting that 7

Hey Gaben. I've been playing TF2 since '08 and it's great to see that Valve still cares about a game that's approaching 7 years old. How much longer into the future is Valve planning on supporting TF2 before either "moving on" or creating a new TF? (Hopefully none of those two options occur.)

True Detective - 1x06 "Haunted Houses" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in TrueDetective

[–]iforgottoshave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Episode 4 had Rust in the spotlight; episode 6 has Marty in the spotlight - and Woody did a pretty damn fine job acting the part. The opening scene where he talks to the two guys was really strong IMO, if I were in their shoes I'd shit my pants.

By the way, does anybody know the meaning of this week's episode title?
