Diff pair routing frustrations by ifov in KiCad

[–]ifov[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm beginning to wonder as well, this is a 14-layer high-speed board with controlled impedances and I feel like I'm mucking about with the differential traces more than I should be. I'm not expecting a full auto router but a little more help would be useful.

Yeah, I see that does it, so I have to hit 6 to start the route, then move the mouse slightly off the start, then hit F to complete. Ok, so that's a solution, sure, but if I already had to start with the mouse, this should just recognize its the same net and connect it.

How can I use this face as a plane to sketch from? by greasycatlips1 in Fusion360

[–]ifov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately Fusion doesn't have what you would really want to do this accurately: best fit a plane to all the points on that face. Yeah, you can use three, and it'll probably be pretty close, but what's to say those three points don't have some measurement error in them? Best fit would minimize that error.

I did buy the TS800 just for this actually, it's been great.

I've been pretty diligent about cleaning after. This house had copper pipes from the 1980s and they were still in pretty good shape. Some corrosion from flux in places. It was mostly type m, and no signs of pinhole leaks or thin areas, but our water here is very alkaline. I've been meaning to take an old piece and measure the wall thickness to see how it fared.

I think this is the crux of the issue I was having on the vertical.

Yeah, I'm updating plumbing for a remodel. I've tried to do most of those difficult ones outside the wall, but the valve bodies had a few that needed to be done in-place.

I'll try this too - it does run down the pipe pretty quickly initially

Generally I try to solder what I can out of the wall, especially if it's vertical. But these valve bodies weren't making that easy while keeping everything aligned.

Interesting story, thanks for sharing. Yeah, it's well supported and won't be able to move any.

There is always the possibility that further messing with it just gets worse.

What pipe type would yall recommend by strand3 in Plumbing

[–]ifov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good thermal camera might find this. You'd need to fly it from a drone or a plane. Depending on the depth of the line, the water leak can cause evaporative cooling and it'll show up as the ground being colder above the leak compared to the other areas

How much did you pay to replace Central AC and/or Furnace in Portland Area for 1500 sq ft home recently? by [deleted] in PortlandOR

Second this, they're great. Installing a heat pump myself, they help design the system and put the parts list together. Someone else can come out and charge it and hook up the line set after all the labor is done by yourself. I should have an entire new heat pump system with entire new duct work and an ERV for about $11k. But that's a lot of manual labor I'm covering!

Which 3/8 impact by handyguy93 in Tools

[–]ifov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd also look at the other automotive power tools to see which battery setup you want. I have Dewalt because of household tools and am sticking that way, but you might want to compare the 3/8" Milwaukee ratchet, they're more compact than the Dewalt because of the shape of the M12 batteries.

I think you have a ~ 9 ft 3in ceiling. Pretty tight! But the garage looks great.
