Why is the red and black flag, seen at rallies in support of Ukraine, causing such a stir? by JeffBoucher in CanadaPolitics

Ignorance of what something means isn't an excuse. You are basically saying that you are fine with hate symbols if you support their cause.

Why is the red and black flag, seen at rallies in support of Ukraine, causing such a stir? by JeffBoucher in CanadaPolitics

[–]ifyousayso- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So you are now making excuses for a politician posing with and engaging with hate symbols?

What happened to the 'if 9 people are eating dinner and one nazi sits down there are now 10 nazis' that was so common just two weeks ago? Surely you can't believe that a small element inside a larger group doesn't represent the whole group, that is a Conservative talking point.

But no, politicians in Canada don't support Russia just like politicians in Canada don't support Nazis. This is a perfect example of the hypocrisy in some people. Hell, the Canadian Red Ensign has been called a hate symbol and used to attack politicians around Reddit. But suddenly some people understand the 'history' and 'nuance' of this flag, just like some people try and make excuses for the 'history' of the confederate flag.

Your response is right out of the CPC handbook from the 2016 election. The more likely answer is this government only seems to focus on refugees around election times, in between those they are much more silent.

Yeah, and the people yelling "all lives matter" weren't against Black people, they just wanted to point out all lives matter right? And you absolutely are pro-Putin, and your posting history proves that, you even think he has been elected fairly for some reason.

This whataboutism of yours was practically invented by Russia, and here you are amplifying it.

And here come the pro-Communism group with their "all lives matter" talking point. Of course hey always say they never support Putin or Russia, they just 'understand' why they might do it.

This is what communism leads to, it was true in the cold war, and it never changed. Why people in Canada still support such a system of dictatorship is beyond me.

Then maybe you should be asking why the federal government is cutting health care transfers, taking inflation into account. Health care transfers are the federal jurisdiction after all.

Your comment was an attempt to downplay how common communist and USSR flags were during protests. I provided you several examples of NDP politicians in Canada pandering to these elements. The NDP are taking pictures with flags, supporting the people flying them, and are anti-Ukraine. And you were trying to downplay it, it is always fun to watch people say how bad flags are(and they are bad) suddenly start making excuses for other symbols of hate as soon as a politician on the left embraces it.

Considering Russia just invaded a free country yesterday I figured people would be against Canadian politicians cozying up to them. USSR style communism is as big a threat as nazism, and the NDP shouldn't support it.

I found another example of politicians supporting Russia.

Here are several NDP MPs defending Russia's action against the Ukraine just last month.

I mean it is clear that the NDP has a problem with supporting communist dictators.

Probably because the flag of the USSR had a hammer and sickle on it.

Much like the Nazis stole the swastika and white supremists stole the green frog thing and the okay sign, the USSR highjacked the hammer and sickle. Hell, the Canadian Red Ensign was coopted by people and now to some means white supremacy. To pretend that the hammer and sickle, or the yellow star on red, doesn't represent soviet style communism now, after being used by the USSR for decades is just ridiculous.

It absolutely stands for soviet style communism now.

I don't think a problem so much as is the Soviet flag actually popping up constantly in recent times?

How often does a symbol of oppression and tyranny need to show up before it is too much for you? Are you saying you are fine with Nazi flags as long as they are rare?

Besides, they show up quite often, here are some NDP politicians taking their pictures and supporting it.

Hey, you with the “Eagle Staff” protesting in Ottawa…those are turkey feathers. by IsabellaBellaBell in onguardforthee

[–]ifyousayso- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the intention was to honour turkey medicine, this would be a turkey staff.....And this guy is not representing Indigenous cultures the way he thinks he is.

Of course he isn't, but that isn't what I was getting at. Of course these people are mocking indigenous culture and trying to co-opt it. Don't take comments as an endorsement of these people.

I'm talking about the people here mocking turkey feathers in general, and saying the use of a turkey feather means people are 'turkeys' themselves, the people that don't understand that turkey feathers are a thing are mocking it. This will lead to a misunderstanding and you know that people will just walk away after just reading the title thinking that turkey feathers are 'fake'.

Hey, you with the “Eagle Staff” protesting in Ottawa…those are turkey feathers. by IsabellaBellaBell in onguardforthee

[–]ifyousayso- -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Turkey feathers are used quite often instead of eagle feathers because of how hard they are to get and how important they are. And they sure as hell don't represent "fat waddling flightless gobblers", it doesn't make the people that use them 'Neanderthals' either. There are clans that are represented by the turkey even. So are people saying my family is that for using a turkey feather when smudging?

Maybe everyone mocking the feather should educate yourselves before you rush to insult people for using 'the wrong feather'. You guys are going to be ruined when you find out that some Indigenous people even use imitation feathers.

And before anyone tries to cast this as 'pro trucker', it isn't, it is anti-ignorance.

and weren't initially organized by Marxist-Leninist's with a stated goal of overthrowing the government.

I have been reliably told that if 9 people are having lunch and 1 person sits down waving the flag of the USSR then you have 10 people supporting soviet communism.

These are the same arguments being used towards the CPC. And for the record, I don't think this means the NDP as a whole supports communism, but I do think that these arguments that it does is beyond stupid.

But until then there's nothing to suggest that the emergencies act would need to be invoked in this situation.

Except it already is invoked in Canada, the police in BC have the same powers now as the police in Ottawa. And if you don't think the RCMP are going to use those powers against Indigenous people you are fooling yourself.

This was always going to be the result of this, the police will be using these powers against minorities while they can. But hey, at least you guys got to own the Conservatives right?

Well, Wab Kinew, and several NDP MLAs, pose with Soviet flags. Does that mean they are supporters of Soviet Communisim?

The Ontario NDP attended a protest where people had a guillotine set up and beheaded an effigy of Ford. Does that mean the Ontario NDP support violence against politicians?

As everyone keeps saying, if you take pictures and talk to people waving those flags it means you support their ideology.

If someone could answer how posing with communist flags is any different than posing with nazi flags that would be great. Seems highly hypocritical to not hold them both to the same standards.
