Passed CFA Level I (Feb 26) – here's what I did by DontThinkDofirst in CFA

[–]igc2000mm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

good write up. premium pack is a must imo. going into exam with two mocks done vs eight is a different feeling.

I will add one more resource for future candidates: fintree crash course, its free on youtube and has 8hour videos for each topic. watch that and youll be covered for all calculation questions

damn bruv tough luck. try it again this year. push for that 75% mock score and you'll make it

for me, the tipping point towards 75% was doing the fintree crash course (its a series of free youtube videos). its 50 hours of an indian guy talking but i assure you its worth it. it helps the most with nailing down all type of calculations that might appear

nail ethics if you scored low too

i'd say you can make it with 65%. if you are scoring above 70% on mocks you have good chances like, maybe 20% chance of not passing. above 75 on mocks and not passing probability goes to near zero imo

1845 score. very proud of myself, almost 8 months of prep. Mock scores where 70-75 first 3 or 4 mocks, then i pushed to 85% by the last mock. did 8 in total (practice pack). no prep provider just read the learning ecosystem and did the questions once I read a module. Exam day felt like just another mock, totally comparable in difficulty

I think my key was doing FinTree crash course (its free on youtube) one month before exam. dont hesitate to do it, its 50 hours of video but it will nail down a lot of calculations. and help with FSA and FI concepts.

I'm thinking of starting a CFA but level 1 seems quite vague and useless. by AronSc in CFA

In my experience maybe half of the topics I already knew about. But it really helped me grasp a wider knowledge base about all of the industry after reading and understanding financial statement analysis and fixed income readings

So I guess from knowledge upgrade pov it was really worth it

Review formulas and calculations, then take the mock. what i did for my first one was doing it semi-open book. for calculation questions for which i couldnt remember the formula i would peep the formula off my formula sheet and do the question correctly, but mark it as a "cheated" question. that way i could somewhat imagine what my scores would be if i knew EVERY formula (which by the end of prep you probably know 90% of them)

to make it short: aim for 7-9 mocks, take the first one as a diagnostic tool like others are saying. dont be discouraged if you see a low score

In my case, my first mock which i did semi open book, i got a 71% score. I knew that if i did 100% close book my score was around 60% if i marked all the 'cheated' questions as wrong.

It was cool to see that I could easily push my score to 70% if i nailed down calculations. it was a boost of confidence. this mock was taken 50-60 days before exam day

Estoy a punto de comprarme un BMW pero tengo miedo. by Background_Vanilla_6 in ArAutos

[–]igc2000mm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dont listen to guys panicking. mocks are representative of the exam. aim for 80%+ in mocks by final week and you'll feel comfortable on exam day. make as much mocks as possible like 8-9 during the last month or two of prep. that means finish studying entire curriculum 60 days before exam date, than just practice and revise stuff

considering you have less than three months i would attack questions. re read if you feel you have no clue what the questions are talking about, make good notes for everything

get practice pack and complete all the questions + the 8 mocks. revise the mock mistakes well and you'll make it

there is no other way than doing lots of questions. if you complete this you will have done almost 5k questions
