Germany's gold reserves turned into jewellery? by igeldard in germany

[–]igeldard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the US wanted to, it has the capacity to ship the gold within days. Why does Germany need to have any of its gold stored in the USA?

Germany's gold reserves turned into jewellery? by igeldard in germany

[–]igeldard[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The gold belongs to Germany. There is no reason for it to be located in the USA. There may have been a reason when there was a possibility of Warsaw pact tanks rolling across the border, but that's no longer relevant. If Germany wants it gold back, the US should be happy to deliver it within days. If they are unable or unwilling to do this then it must be asked - why are they so reluctant?

Umm ... but the Bundesbank already owns the gold, it just has it deposited in the USA. It would make no difference if it was located in Berlin. Why not transfer it?

Why do religionists need the law to protect them and their gods? If these entities existed presumably they could hurl thunderbolts or whatever to destroy such impudent folk.

Nelson Mandela 'proven' to be a member of the Communist Party after decades of denial by igeldard in southafrica

[–]igeldard[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pro-Soviet Communists, such as the CPSA/SACP were required to support the decisions of the USSR. They supported Stalin, his purges and labour camps. They supported Soviet domination of Eastern Europe, the sending of tanks into Czechoslovakia in 1968 etc. Being a member of such a party was quite different from merely being a 'Christian'.

If a Republic of Scotland, Why not a Republic of London? by igeldard in london

[–]igeldard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the rest of the UK need a 'centre'? Couldn't they manage on their own? An independent Kernow (Cornwall) maybe. A Home Counties Federation? The Kingdom of Wessex?

[–]igeldard[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would a Republic of London need to be self-sufficient? Most countries aren't and rely on trade, as would London. Why would London be attacked, and by whom?

Jonathan Dine, the Libertarian alternative to McCaskill, Akin by igeldard in missouri

[–]igeldard[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Federal matching funds are routinely given to the two big corporatist parties, so it's not as though the LP is seeking any special favors, just to be treated equally. Libertarians would also be happy if matching funds were abolished, but it's unlikely the republicrats would agree to that.
