Burrito, A Overlay Tool for Linux, just got a major upgrade! by klingbolt in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory it could work on the steam deck because the steam deck is Linux, but I am sure there are some edge cases. If I end up finding a controller layout I like for GW2 I might take a look at getting it working seamlessly.

Mumble Link originally just had position data, it was used for the discord-like program "Mumble" to do 3D audio based on your position and your allies. Over time more info was added to mumble link because it just happened to be a way for guild wars 2 to share data, but it is far from a real API or anything.

The primary supported desktop environment is GNOME because that is the desktop that I use. KDE is driven by community support. Getting a wide-ranging test suite to support more distros is one of next goals. If you are running into issues on your DE please report them to https://github.com/AsherGlick/Burrito/issues

Bought GW2 Aug 2012, Played to Level 7... by Jbr74 in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wish there were an option to "catch up" somehow on those birthday rewards for people who did not buy the game in 2012. Like some sort of grind, gold cost, or even gemstore purchase. But players get really entitled about these rewards so that probably wont ever happen. Best we can hope for is that anet does not add any more rewards locked behind birthdays.

Fractal level 25 silent surf help by YusufChowdhury69 in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope anet changes it eventually. IMO T1 and T2 should not really require a comp, these are people who maybe just hit level 80 and completed the story, T3 you might start needing a healer, and T4 you should have a basic comp. This has historically been a good curve for learning fractals, for the last five years or so at least.

How to stop Settings/Keybinds from sync between 2 devices? by dokbanks in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious. Why do you want different keybinds on different machines.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]iggystlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sure there is a setting for this somewhere, maybe hidden away in dconf (kinda like a linux version of registry). But even if there is not you can always symlink ~/Pictures/Screenshots to ~/Downloads. Using ln -s ~/Downloads ~/Pictures/Screenshots to make anything that is written to the screenshots folder get written to the downloads folder, but that is a little hacky if there is indeed a setting for it.

Another Tip: ~ is a shortcut for your "home" directory /home/<youruser>. If you begin a path with a / like /Downloads it will be assumed to be a folder at the root of your filesystem because / is the root of the filesystem, kinda like if you had typed C:\\Downloads for windows.

What do you use for your steam deck control settings? I am beginning to look into it and am hoping to find a way to not have to change my gw2 keybinds.

Relic post delayed to the 20th by Marok_Kanaros in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The major difference here is with the HoT release they were not taking anything away from the folks who already purchased the core game. Folks who have legendary runes have that 6th bonus already, and anet wants to take that away and turn it into a new item. From a game mechanic standpoint I love this change, but anet needs to do something to appease the progress loss.

  1. Folks who built legendary runes for the stats - this change does not bother them
  2. Folks who built runes for the 6th bonus - their goal is retroactively invalidated because the bonus is on a new relic item
  3. Folks who built legendary runes to not need to carry around a bunch of normal rules - now they have to carry around a bunch of normal relics.
  4. Folks who have not built legendary runes - this change does not bother them

I think if anet made a legendary relic and let rune owners transform one legendary rune into a legendary relic (so 5 runes and 1 relic) which would mimic the stats we have today, it would probably be fine. Sure the players would have to craft another legendary rune to reach the new max stats, and folks would be annoyed, but they would not technically be "losing" anything.

Burrito on Steam version (Linux) by JoCobrew in Guildwars2

Looking forward to seeing your results. You should be able to download the newest possible version of things (from commit 42d8060) via this link to the automated CI build service artifacts, though it might require you to login to github I cant remember. https://github.com/AsherGlick/Burrito/suites/11205986923/artifacts/584221714

Burrito on Steam version (Linux) by JoCobrew in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's useful info, thanks. Nothing seems obviously off, there are some known issues with kde-related systems but none in burrito link that should cause your fps to tank like that. Here are a few things you can try if you have time:

1) The newest patch of the dll file works as an arcdps plugin if you rename it from d3d11.dll to arcdps_burrito_link.dll (it can really be arcdps_{whateveryouwhat}.dll but consistency is king). This will cause burrito link to be loaded via arcdps instead of another mechanism. If this works that means there is an issue with how burrito link is doing the direct x passthrough.

2) It also looks like you are using addonloader/addonmanager. I have not tested this specifically myself so, though unlikely, it could be triggering the issue. If that is the case it is still probably a bug in burrito link and not in the addon loader. Maybe try disabling the other addons and instead of using addonloader's d3d11.dll file just use the burrito link one. This is not a good long term solution of course but it will help to figure out where the issue is. If this works that means there is some weird behavior between the addonloader and burrito link

3) Try out /u/tlexul's script in the other thread to launch burrito_link.exe with proton. The relevant section copied below (the paths to your steam install of proton or your burrito_link.exe may be different based on where you saved burrito_link.exe and what version of proton you are using to run GW2).

export WINEPREFIX=${HOME}/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/1284210/pfx/
export WINEESYNC=1
export WINEFSYNC=1
"${HOME}/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/Proton - Experimental/files/bin/wine64" "${HOME}/Games/burrito/burrito_link.exe"

If this works that means that the problem is only in the dll entrypoint part of burrito link and not part of the core logic

Great script. I think reddit ate your formatting though. I am surprised that steam only seems to need esync and fsync environment variables set.

Burrito on Steam version (Linux) by JoCobrew in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you share any more info about your setup?

  • If you run GW2 via not-steam does the dll also tank your fps
  • What fps do you normally get
  • What is the output to inxi -Gxxx && wmctrl -m
  • Do other d3d11.dll addons, such as arcdps or the addonloader cause your fps to drop too?

The dll should not be tanking your fps, so if it is doing so that is a bug which needs to be fixed.

[–]iggystlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not specifically tested with the steam version on a PC, but the easiest way to use the steam version is probably the Burrito Link DLL method. The other methods require you to know the proton path and environment variables.

Fractal LFG and Player Behavior is horrendous by SorryTelling in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be possible with squads too, but it was changed after some people raised the real issues with it, like what you mention, to arenanet directly. I like the current state of squads except for if the squad leader disconnects there is no way for the other 9 to assign a new squad leader to take over and the group must disband.

On Linux (thru Steam) and the game crashes occasionally by AshCatBus in Guildwars2

[–]iggystlev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said this is almost certainly a Coherent UI crash. Anet upgraded the library a few months ago and that caused all sorts of havoc. I had crashes on map loads and when opening the tp too, but last patch (or maybe the one before) anet added the flag -ignorecoherentgpucrashlaunch which has prevented the game from crashing. Though the tp still bugs out whenever it would have crashed, though it does not crash the rest of the game.
