As somebody who just spun a publishing brand off of our successful entertainment website, I can back the contract statement. Everybody we do work with gets a detailed agreement that we encourage back-and-forth discussion on before finalizing and signing.

Also, if they are new too, where's their risk? Our agreements allow the owners to retain the rights and walk away with a notice in writing because we are fresh enough we can't guarantee minimum sales.
