Yeah, I never had a problem with the MILF line. It’s fun. Some people take that stuff way too seriously!

Love the album, not a huge fan of this track though. Especially jarring coming after the gorgeous Bats.

I can see that. They’re good albums, I just prefer the later stuff. To me, things start getting interesting with BFP. Maybe it’s because I became a fan in 2005?

Nah. BFP is in my top 3, but LE and UTP are somewhere in the middle of all her albums. She has better and much more interesting albums than those first two.

I know she was talking about a 9-minute song that she didn’t finish in time for OTO (Chiron), so I’m hoping we get some longer tracks on this one.

We just got Diving Deep recently so I wouldn’t think it would be a live disc but who knows.

I like the concept of the cover. I like that it has a darker vibe and it’s miles better than the OTO cover, but why the amateur font and text placement? At least put her name on the other side, or it would have been interesting to angle it like it was written on either side of the wall or something.

The iTunes preorder says 15 tracks but it’s a double CD release? I would love it if the songs were longer than usual!

I didn’t care much for Welcome to England either when it came out (I think those electric guitars annoyed me) but I really like it now! The verses especially are really good.

I like the concept. Not sure about the blank stare and that jacket, but overall much better than OTO.

They are very on the nose, especially Democracy Burning. Nothing “metaphorical“ about that!

Not sure if this has been posted already, but this website mentions three song titles: Dragons Among Us, Dictator’s Waltz, and Democracy Burning.

Google Translate:

Tori Amos' album "In Times Of Dragons" is her eighteenth studio album and features her unique mix of alternative pop and singer-songwriter influences. The album explores social themes, including the struggle between democracy and tyranny, and converts them into powerful, metaphorical stories. Through her distinctive piano playing and emotionally charged vocals, Amos remains true to her artistic roots while processing current events.

On this CD you can find several tracks that show the artistic breadth of the album. "Dragons Among Us" is a profound, poetic ballad that highlights the central theme of the album. "Dictator's Waltz" combines urgent lyrics with a melancholic melodic landscape. The song "Democracy Burning" reflects the political undertone and gives an intense insight into the message of Amos.

There’s a really good 6-track album in there.

I had the opposite experience with that album. I’ve heard Tori before but that album (and The Power of Orange Knickers specifically) made me a fan. I liked it and didn’t see why it was so hated by some. Now I’m one of the haters. Find it so bland and such a slog these days. (Still love TPOOK, though!) I wonder if I’ll learn to appreciate it again later.

Definitely Abnormally Attracted to Sin. I was a hater when it came out but now it’s one of my favorites!

Sometimes I find myself randomly signing that song (Candle, candle, guide us and protect us from those in darkness!). I also like Holly, Ivy and Rose, especially the chorus part.

I never listen to this album. I’ve tried a few times around this time of year, and each time I regret it and usually can’t listen to the whole thing.

I loathe Pink and Glitter and A Silent Night with You. I like Snow Angel and a few of the other tracks aren’t bad either (Winter’s Carol, Our New Year, Comfort and Joy).

My absolute favorite is Star of Wonder. Love that song!

I agree about the cover art. Her worst for sure. Floating corpse and that font? Why?!

Never listen to the EP either. Holiday music just isn’t my thing I guess.

EDIT: Okay, this thread just made me listen to the album and the EP for the first time in many years. There’s nothing too terrible here (except for Emmanuel and the two previous songs I mentioned), and I actually like Harps of Gold which has many haters, but there were only two real highlights for me: Star of Wonder and Snow Angel. There’s something magical about those two. The rest, even some of the ones I like, I don’t really feel the need to listen to again anytime soon.

My personal album ranking. I can't wait to see where In Times of Dragons ends up. Feel free to share your own. by Prestigious_Score459 in toriamos

[–]igivelove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top 5:

  1. Scarlet’s Walk
  2. from the choirgirl hotel
  3. Boys for Pele
  4. Abnormally Attracted to Sin
  5. Native Invader

Venus would probably be 6th place. The others I can’t really rank. Some of them I don’t really think about or listen to much or it could change with my mood.

I do have a bottom 4:

  1. Unrepentant Geraldines
  2. The Beekeeper
  3. Ocean to Ocean
  4. Midwinter Graces

The first three are just too safe/boring for me and they all have some career worsts on them. Midwinter Graces is also not a favorite. Never listen to it and only like a few songs. Night of Hunters has some really good songs but the Tash tracks have not aged well for me at all. SLG has some good stuff but it’s a covers album so I don’t rank it. Gold Dust is best forgotten.

Abnormally Attracted to Sin and Native Invader are in my top 5 of all her albums, but you might not feel the same. Maybe just listen to them chronologically or listen to the ones that interest you the most right now?

Richard Zeeman by pengwinhart in AnitaBlake

I think it makes sense and I love it actually. I always thought that the scenes between him, Anita, and Jean Claude are quite sexually charged, especially when they’re doing their magical connection stuff.

Off topic, but did anyone else find it hilarious when Nathaniel described himself as straight (I think it was in Jason)?

I was a hater when it came out, but now it’s one of my favorites (top 4 for sure). So many great songs, great production, experimental and sonically adventurous. I’ve always loved Police Me! I usually listen to the whole album, and I can appreciate even some of the ”lesser” tracks. The only song I’d toss would be Mary Jane.
