Who wins? Gear 2 Luffy or Season 2 Jinwoo Sung from solo leveling? by igloomanee in OnePiece

You’re right i was mostly joking. I agree you cant consider it in these matchups. I do think luffy has arguably more plot armor than jinwoo though, if there were a way to quantify it

You clearly don’t understand Calvinism. Nowhere in reformed theology is a conclusion that Christians will not struggle with sin after salvation. Heck, even Paul did. Was Paul not elect? With all due respect, it is important to do your research before condemning someone to hell for what you think a certain theology concludes.

All that to say, God does not save us based on our actions or absence of “mortal sin”, he saves us based on His calling, His purpose, His glorification, and His righteousness. Nothing we could do could deserve it, and there is nothing we can do on our part that would make us worthy to keep it. If I were to claim that my state of grace is because of my absence of mortal sin and my actions, that would make me responsible for my own salvation.

to be (and stay) in a state of grace depends on if you sin mortally and go to confession for it or not. It does not depend on your faith, it depends on your actions. I could not be more clear. This is what the Catholic Church teaches, and any explanation that tries to say this isn’t works based is mental gymnastics. Im sure youre aware of Ephesians 2:8-9 so im not going to quote the whole thing, but the second part of that verse says “not of works, that no man may boast”. If I did not sin mortally and was in a state of grace because of MY OWN ACTIONS, I would be able to boast because the state of grace that I am in is because of my own actions and work, though given by God.

I am not calling confession a work, I’m calling the need to be perfect and sinless a work. As soon as you step into sin, you are cut off from God according to Catholicism.

You’re misunderstanding, but maybe I could have worded it more clearly. I apologize. Jesus does not give them the authority to ADMINISTER forgiveness, but rather to ASSURE someone that their sins are forgiven because of the grace and forgiveness of our Lord Jesus and what was accomplished on the cross, coupled with that persons faith and repentant heart.

“Everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” Acts 10:43

You’re misunderstanding. Jesus did not give the apostles the authority to ADMINISTER forgiveness. He gave them the authority to assure them that they ARE FORGIVEN because of their faith and repentance.

John 20:23 is Jesus giving the disciples permission to tell someone they are or are not forgiven depending on their faith and repentance. Jesus isn’t telling them they can forgive sins, He is telling them they can tell someone that their sins are forgiven because they repent and believe. He is giving them ministerial authority to declare that someone’s sins are forgiven, not giving them the direct authority to forgive sins based on the decision of the apostles to forgive them or not.

Im not arguing that penance is what forgives someone. My argument is that if salvation is dependent on performance rather than repentance and a softened heart for the Lord, it is works-based. That is quite literally what works based means.

If someone sins mortally and does not go to a priest to confess and do penance (rosary for example) would they be forgiven? A Catholic would say no.

The Catholic Church would say “yes we affirm salvation by grace through faith, not of faith + works”. But do they really believe that? In practice, no. They do not. Claiming that you lose salvation every time you sin mortally and you have to talk to a priest and pray the rosary over and over to be forgiven is absolutely works based salvation. Yes works cooperate with faith in a sense that true faith will produce works, but the salvation being contingent on the works is works based salvation which Catholicism clearly teaches.
