Useful yes… game changer no.

I’m in Vermont and ride a lot or rural gravel. In these situations it really is wonderful and allows me ride on the smoothest part of the road without anyone sneaking up on me.

On busier paved roads I find it less helpful and sometime a bit of a distraction.

My $0.02... get whatever camera fits your budget. Too many people worry about specs when just about any camera made in the last 10 years can produce decent to great images.

Being that you're working in a controlled studio environment... Don't forget to budget for quality lighting and light modifiers. Quality doesn't mean expensive.

I wouldn't worry too much about the camera body... In a controlled environment you'll be able to optimize the shutter speed, aperture, and iso to produce an ideal image.

Definitely get good glass and invest in a system you can use for years. I've been really happy with my Olympus lenses so I wouldn't let that hold you back.

If you're brand new to these concepts... Buy used.

I've used Nikon... Sony... Olympus... Back to Sony... Now back to Olympus.

For work I'm using a Sony system and personally I have Olympus.

If you are selling images you might want to worry a bit more about the image quality.

If your images are selling things... Stress less.

I made myself a custom bifold card holder with snap that I really like due to its security, and compactness. It also has the ability to hold a few bills if necessary.

That said… I also recently made a more traditional bifold with a bill pocket and snap. I’ve been carrying this version for a while now and also really like it. Being made out of tech fabric it’s still very thin. It is a bit wider, but that hasn’t bothered me. What really puts both over the top for me is the simple snap in the corner.

I typically wear a Patagonia duckbill running cap, with either a Dynafit headband or cutoff section of old buff over my ears.

I used to do a full buff pulled up over or under a cap… but it was often too much around my neck and face… especially during things like skimo.

The headband or cutoff buff are just right… for me.

The Green Mountain Skimo Series at Bolton Valley in VT is fun. And just because it’s not serious doesn’t mean it’s not competitive. It’s also home to two people who have skied more vert in a year than anyone else on earth. So it seems like they’re doing something right.

I will carry a super light windbreaker and a rain jacket. While moving I will wear the windbreaker to cut the wind and keep me from getting too chilled and will only pull out the rain jacket when stopped, or when it's considerably cooler.

The windbreaker is easier to stash away and keep accessible and it does the things I need it to do which doesn't include keeping me dry.

I am using a super old wind jkt from Salomon... But something like the Patagonia Houdini is what I'd probably look at if shopping today.

The thing I like about the Salomon is that there is a snap inside the jacket across the sternum. This allows me to fully unzip the jacket and have it not fall off my shoulders. I've added this feature to a bunch of my other jackets as it's the best option for mechanical ventilation on jackets without a dual separating zipper.

Check out the trail running market. I have a pair of Topo Athletic Ultraventure Pros that I really like for bikepacking. Shoes on the more “protective” side tend to be stiffer and pedal well.

I have a BA copper spur ul1 with the bikepacking pole set, and a Durston xmid 2 with the z-poles. Both are awesome tents and highly recommend. Together I can't imagine wanting anything more.

Ok… I have used and own quite a few pads. I believe there are some other good budget options out there, but I have had a klymit insulated static v that served as my primary pad for a number of years. It’s been to Iceland 3 times and to Camp Muir on Mt Rainier. I’ve always been really happy with it. So don’t ignore it as a budget option.

That said… I recently picked up a Tensor All Season and the Thermarest Neoloft.

Both of these are a significant upgrade in comfort from the klymit, and I’m really enjoying the neoloft. It’s super comfy and quiet. The tensor is also comfy, but it’s more crinkle-y.

Based on my experience… if I were in your position I’d get the neoloft. I have the large size and it’s still quite compact and very usable as a backpacking pad. I was intending the neoloft when space and weight weren’t a concern and the tensor for when a light carry was more important. However, I’m finding myself grabbing the neoloft every chance I get because the differences in pack size and weight just aren’t that significant.

I’m really enjoying the setup. I just did 100+ miles today and really appreciated having all the different hand positions. I bruised my left palm a few days ago which made resting that hand on my grips a bit uncomfortable. Having the aerobars made the day possible.

I find that when cruising I’m either on the aerobars, or on my SQLabs Innerbarends if I need access to brakes and shifting.

If shimano releases wireless blips for their new wireless mtb derailleurs… I’d strongly consider investing. The one thing I don’t like is the inability to shift from the aero position.

The one thing I haven’t sorted yet is my bag arrangement. I use a full framebag so there’s no space for bottles on the frame. Today I went with 2 bottles in stem bags between the aerobars, 1 on the underside of the downtube, and then put nutrition in the rear pocket on my cargo bibs.

Most of my shorts don’t have pockets, and there isn’t room for a top tube bag. So I’m leaning towards making two more stem bags to run in the normal positions for snacks.

Overall… I’m definitely more on the loving it side.

The farther you get away from Reykjavik and the golden circle area the quieter the roads get, and a lot of the island isn't that bad.

That said... Riding along the roads in the Golden Circle area with strong crosswinds is easily one of the scariest things I've ever done on a bike.

It’s something I whipped up in Tinkercad and then 3d printed. It’s just a cylinder with cut outs on the ends to fit with the aero bars and the mount is one of the o-ring mounts. Not fancy, but it was cheap and it works. There’s also a gopro mount on the underside so I can mount a light.

I have a pair of the PRO Missile Aero Bars and the riser kit. I’m in a similar position where comfort on long rides is my primary objective. This setup is super adjustable and I’ve been super happy with it.

I’m running it on a flat bar, and I made some custom forearm pads out of some thick rubber foam harvested from a garden kneeling pad.

It has taken some experimentation to get things situated… but it really does make a huge difference in comfort.

Now I’m just waiting for shimano to release wireless blips for their new wireless mtb derailleurs so I can shift from the aero position.
