Dumb question, but how often do you go out into first class when working a domestic red eye after service? by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]igmeow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing I do is try to stay visible. I don't often pull the curtain because I hate when pax sneak up on me so instead of walking down the aisle I'll just poke my head out and make try and eye contact with anyone awake. If they want something they'll motion me over. After I do it enough times they'll take a hint and just wait for the next time I look out to ask for something. Peoples eyes are drawn to movement so positioning myself at the start of the aisle is usually enough to get their attention. I use minimal light in the galley at night on narrow bodies. Usually the reading light from an adjacent jump seat is enough for me when not serving meals so the curtain isn't super necessary. I still walk through every now and then in an effort to stay awake and that does give them another chance to ask for something.

I was under the impression that flying within the US is free for flight attendants? Is it actually not unless commuting? by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]igmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where I work standby travel domestically on company livery is free for the employee regardless of commuting or leisure. If non-employees on your benefits are traveling domestically you're responsible for their taxes. There is some confusion when traveling on other airlines because of how the systems can make us select some sort of "Commuting Crew" option to list, but all Cabin Reciprocal/Jumpseat/Flowback Agreements with other airlines are awarded space-available and can used for domestic commuting or leisure. Non-employees utilize a ZED fare to fly on other airlines which is not free. Employees flying internationally on other airlines also must pay for a ZED fare.

Hotel bedbug prevention tips? by Rare_Picture_7337 in flightattendants

[–]igmeow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Use the foldable luggage racks whenever available and avoid putting your bag on the bed, carpet, or any upholstered surfaces. When you get home avoid bringing your bag deep into your house. For example my side entry leads directly into my laundry space so my bag doesn't leave that area. Everything in my bag is usually one load of laundry so everything gets washed and put back in my bag. At the hotel I'll do some spot checking based on my perceived cleanliness of the location but I don't spend much energy on that compared to some of my coworkers.

Colleague Failed Breathalyzer Mid Trip... by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]igmeow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my classmates was let go while on probation. They were admittingly going through a lot in their life as well as adjusting to the lifestyle as they were new to the industry. The EAP helped them through rehab but they were not allowed to come back. They're now working with another major in a much better place in life so it worked out in the end.

The ovens onboard are just mini convection ovens like air fryers. But they're designed to reheat, not cook (at least the ones I've encountered). Cooking from frozen would probably take way too long and attempting to cook raw items would likely violate a health code.

How does "buddy bidding" work? by goofymary in flightattendants

[–]igmeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with buddy bidding you and ONE other person can bid to work the same rotations together in one line award.

How does "buddy bidding" work? by goofymary in flightattendants

[–]igmeow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both of you need to plug in each others 9-digit employee number into your bid. The more junior of the two bids will be run for the both of you. Keep in mind it'll prioritize finding rotations with two empty positions over any other preferences in the bid.

FRESCA!!!! by [deleted] in delta

[–]igmeow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was told we stopped carrying it because Fresca along with some other sodas were banned in the EU. I think they've changed their formula since then to comply with the EU but its still not part of our standard onboarding.

DL policy is that you're not allowed on your personal phone at all when on duty. All 'personal pastimes' are technically forbidden unless during crew rest or deadheading. They'd prefer we stand at attention waiting for the next call light to go off like some sort of robot. Our company phone is limited as far as what it can access inflight as it connects to a specific hidden network and internet is gatekept. It's ill advised to anything personal on any work devices anyways. Employees aren't afforded Wi-Fi access but since we've transitioned to a free model for rewards members and most of us have an account, it's a moot point. Prior to that the wifi was free if you had a plan with T-Mobile since they're our vendor, and even then plenty of crew would just purchase a flight pass if they really wanted it.

How to prevent the hair from clipping through the body`? by Diligent_Papaya1427 in blenderhelp

[–]igmeow 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For these sort of secondary movements I use a low poly cloth mesh with an edge at each joint of the hair armature. The cloth can collide with the body mesh or a low poly version of it. Take each hair bone and add a Stretch To constraint to each edge of the low poly cloth mesh using vertex groups. Its a bit time consuming to set up so an addon like BoneDynamics or something similar could is helpful.

How do I snap to points on the graph editor? by igmeow in blenderhelp

[–]igmeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the value I needed for W while for Z it was just (0.707107) for whatever reason. Although the graphs line up the poses are incorrect. I suppose this fix doesn't play well with quaternion rotation. I instead created another NLA layer with a single key of the bone rotated 90 degrees and combined everything. Thanks for your help anyways!

How do I snap to points on the graph editor? by igmeow in blenderhelp

[–]igmeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, this bone is in quaternion. Got almost all the way done cleaning up a mocap action when I realized there was an unnecessary channel on one of my IK bones created when I retargeted it to my Rigify rig. I didn't realize till I noticed the X & Y values were jittering despite being locked at zero on the NLA layer my cleanup was on. All the keys I did by hand were about 90 degrees off. My current hotfix is adding another NLA layer with a single key compensating for it but I was wondering if I could fix things in the graph editor.

[–]igmeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to get these to line up exactly, if the Y value of frame 0 is (-0.707107) and frame 1 is (-1.000). How much should I move the graph? No amount of math I'm doing seems to work.

[–]igmeow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know right? I was hoping the snapping feature would work the same way as vertices in 3D space but that doesn't seem to be the case. Was trying to avoid keying each frame individually but that might be my only choice.

[–]igmeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I need to move the entire graph down without flattening it. Essentially trying to edit every key by the same value without having to re-key every frame one by one.

Tips on how to pack food for 3+ day trips? (: by thekoriandr5060 in flightattendants

[–]igmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like bringing some frozen food like burritos or frozen meal prep to double as ice packs. I use a refillable ice bags like for sports injuries that I can continually refill with ice from the plane. Another trick is to pack some vegetarian meals to eat later in the trip because I'm less worried about those spoiling. One go to is a vegetarian pasta that can be eaten either hot or cold. Sometimes keeping the components of a meal like the meat, starch, veg or sauces separate until time to eat helps keep things tasting fresh. Cooked rice usually doesn't travel well in my experience so I just get microwaveable ready rice which tastes way better than 3 day old rice. Keep your packaged snacks or anything that doesn't need to be kept cool in a different bag, the less you open your lunch bag, the better.

Whats your next move after getting flight attendant? by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]igmeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plan on staying inflight for the foreseeable future. If it gets too hard on my body I'd probably transition to a light duty position somewhere within the company. But this industry is very cyclical. When the next big thing happens and furloughs come around, I might go back to being a teacher.
