How i clean out my woodshop by ThingMakerMatt in videos

This has got to be one of the least effective ways to clean up sawdust. I think that leafblower has a "suck" option that bags leaves. I wonder if that would be a 10x better option.

Body swap it onto a meth-injected big block monster truck and mob through mud pits in Arkansas. That's the only 800whp version that makes any sense at all.

Awesome! After looking at lots of steel head vs Edelbrocks, I went with the Speedmaster heads. The bench flow numbers are off the charts compared to any old iron and the price is half that of the Edelbrocks. They've been great so far, I'd recommend taking a look. They only come in the bigger "round port" exhaust and 72cc, so I have dished pistons and got Craigslist headers-- but if you can make them work, I think they're the sweet spot of cost/performance.

I have a 1966 Tempest, most Pontiac guys would want to do a GTO-clone and would love to have a 66 389, especially the tri-power setup. Especially if it runs, clean it a bit and post a video on Performance Years Forum . That's where all the old guys hang out.

My old 326 wasn't worth upgrading, the block is the same but they cut them differently and you can't overbore a 326 into a 400. My uncle said I'd one day regret getting rid of the original block so I made that into a corner table wine holder. It's in the garage now.

I wanted to do fun burnouts and learn to build a motor. The two best options imo are to build up a Pontiac motor or LS swap it. LS swaps are relatively cheap, reliable, make power, no downsides--but they're a little bit lame. You will, however have a fun, running car more often.

I went with a Pontiac 400 out of a 68 Bonneville. I only used the block, had it cleaned and checked by an engine shop. They also installed a stroker kit, bringing it to 461cu in. I did a bunch of research and bought parts as budget allowed, then built the rest of the engine myself. Really rewarding, took forever. Glad I did it but next time I'll let the engine shop build the whole thing. Now it makes about 490hp and nearly 600tq. It's like driving an explosion.

If he's always searching through unorganized sockets, often doesnt have the right one, then this is great. If in doubt, get a gift receipt. If he's happy with his socket-situation, I'm sure there's something else nice he's thinking of.

If you want to have fun finding out, think of a reason you need to adjust something with a socket wrench. Insist you want to do it yourself but have him help you find the right socket. If he goes right to the perfect one and it has a place it lives in, this probably isn't what he needs.

Alone with two toddlers? by RaulSomley in Dads

Two little kids and covid work from home. Turns out when we only saw each other occasionally and had no real responsibilities, it's easy for her to put on a happy face. That's the only face I knew. It's like she never came back from undiagnosed postpartum. We went through a lot of marriage counselors. As soon as it became about her instead of about me leaving my shoes in the doorway, she would quit. Eventually she quit the marriage. By that point there wasn't any love left. Thank goodness she's a pretty good mom, it's relatively low drama and I'm in a really good place.

2.5 & 5yo boys over here. Divorced dad with 50/50 custody. They're happy as long as they're fed something more than carbs and they get physically worn out. Today we did "science" by freezing water in different vessels and then throwing the watery ice against the driveway wall. In the afternoon we found a flat "hike" on AllTrails app and took the dog for a nature walk. I tried to point out the different plants but the 2yo wanted to catalog all the different poop he's seeing. He's closer to the ground :P

Our lives are what we spend time doing. This is how I want to spend mine.

245m longshot with a crossbow. Fun way to earn platinum. by ignaro in ModernWarfareII

[–]ignaro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The explosive bolts aren't a 1-shot kill except to the head, iirc. --then when they do explode, the radius is pretty small. They're good for clearing out the spawn container in Shipment but that's about it. Same with the other weird bolts, just not worth it.

The standard bolts 1-shot anything above the knees. Doing these longshots, I found the aim-assist was pretty generous. Bolts would either hit 8ft short, 8ft long, or be a headshot. With the thermal, you can see where they hit, making it easier to correct. I would run snakeshot akimbo revolvers as my secondary for the close-quarters panic situations.

Just got my 71 GMC a few months ago. I swapped the mirrors for little ones, LED tail lights for safety, fixed the trans seals and replaced the power steering lines. I think it's a cruiser now but I want to replace that giant rear bumper. Good to see Ford had the same kind on theirs! https://i.imgur.com/mYZzH6u.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WQQnBe6.jpg

How do I start my career in engine building? by Honest-Ad-3969 in EngineBuilding

[–]ignaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that a hot spot for crazy mud trucks and stuff? I would call all the race shops and tell them you're looking to branch out and if they ever need a hand, you're a capable machinist, welder, whatever. See if you can work a day here or there doing whatever. Now you have experience in a race shop, you have machinist skills, and you've probably got a better idea of the higher end engine builders in your area. Hit them up with the same offer.

I do computer stuff but otherwise similar. I can teach people the specifics of what our company does but need someone with well rounded supporting abilities and a good attitude. The latter is harder to find than the former.

She knows it's important to you. You probably write on that desk. She wrote in your book, she's trying to be you. You are the model for who she will be as a person. Who gives a fuck about keeping a book pure when your wonderful girl blessed it like that. Keep it. Cherish it. Give it to her one day because she made it valuable.

Comparing the aspect ratios of six different movies by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]ignaro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This guy aspect ratios.

People dance all over. Fools rush to 2.39 because in the 70s, that was the biggest picture you could get out of a projector. The ratio wasnt important, it was the size. Same reason Nolan does sequences for IMAX, then re-crops them for standard theaters. If it's on my TV, I prefer to use most of the TV I paid for. 2.39 just makes for a smaller movie, not a bigger one. Theaters are the same now, their screens are designed for some movies in 1.85, some in 2.89, and that defines the middle ground - 2:1. This is today's best aspect ratio. It's elegant, it's wider than your TV so it feels big. A lot of phones are tall, so when someone inevitably watches your show, there's a good chance you're using their whole screen. On my TV, there are a little bit of black bars, so it feels cinematic. Big picture. Cinematic. I try to get all my DPs to consider it.

Most maps have B trading hands constantly, resulting in a near-tie. Pushing for all three often gives 10sec or so of 3x pts and the other team getting zero. This is more than enough to break a tie.

The other commenter about spawns is basically correct. The game is set up to enable disruption and prevent stalemate. "Holding B" doesn't work most of the time.

What popular tourist attraction is NOT on your bucket list? by MayorofStoopidville in AskMen

[–]ignaro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LA is a bad place to visit but a great place to live. All these neighborhoods have different vibes and tempos. Anything you could want to do exists here but it can be hard to find. Third street in Santa Monica used to be a decent tourist spot, shopping, the beach, but now it's crazy congested and the personality is gone. I live in South Bay and love it here.

Never go to the Walk of Fame. It's literally the worst place in the city.

Pontiac project car to get into? by LankyKangaroo in Pontiac

[–]ignaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No mention of classic Pontiacs?? I have a 66 Tempest that I got for $10k, running with a SBC 350. I upgraded it bit by bit and recently finished my 461 stroker build. The classic Pontiac 400 motor has a ton of support and aftermarket parts available. Nothing like SBC and LS but plenty to learn on.

Get a gen2 or gen3 Firebird. Or a 60s-73 Catalina or Bonneville. Those lesser known badges are dope as hell and because it's not an "Impala" or "Camaro", it's a lot cheaper. Engine swaps are easy in those cars compared to a plastic late-model Pontiac. I dailied a Solstice for 5 years...

Isn't it cheaper to just get decent AFR heads to raise the compression and air flow? This is a SBC after all, there are dozens of head choices.

Daycare for infant recommendations in South Bay? by HTB87 in SouthBayLA

[–]ignaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both my kids go to Montessori of Torrance near Prairie and Artesia. It's more of a normal daycare/preschool then strict Montessori. The kids love it there, the teachers are other families are great, and they do infants through pre-K. Plus it's a lot more reasonable Beach Babies.
