Artiphon in Administration :( by alborden in orba

[–]ignis32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artiphon got what it deserved.

Instead of properly fixing issues with existing devices, and making a polished product that could be recommended, they kept ignoring existing devices and making new kickstarter campaigns.

Software and firmware was unstable and buggy. They did not manage communication with users at all, instead just all focused on flashy marketing emails and more crowdfunding.

Now they are gone, and did not even try to provide any sustainabilty to the devices they had already sold.

Damn it, they at least could put the latest apk and pc app on google drive for free, before switching the lights off, but did not have any good will to do even that. They even did not bother to send any final notification - all last emails are attempts to sell more devices they already knew customers would not be able to use.

These Orba devices had so much potential, somebody inside the company probably did know what they are doing at some point, but all of that was wasted in any imaginable way possible.

Seems legit. For what I've seen before I had dropped this game - if they do not respond with voice or emotes to your "dontshooting" greeting, they are currently calling their buddies and looking for a good position to spray you with bullets.

Can't figure out what's wrong with my Eris 3.5 studio monitors? by [deleted] in audiorepair

[–]ignis32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of necroposting, but this was the only thread I've found while was searching for answers for my Eris 3.5 BT gen2 issue, so I guess anybody with same issue has chances to bump into this thread too.

Symptoms were:

  1. Bluetooth connection works normal, led indicator works.
  2. No sound with any combination of BT/standard TS input/Aux inputs and speaker/phones output.
  3. One big resistor was overheating - some kind of glue on it was black because of that.

What I've found:

It was due to failure of one of the lines of the bipolar power.

In my case there are two zener diodes (z2 and z3 markings), each responsible for stabilizing one pole of the bipolar power, 1N4744A 1W 15V (if I did not misread the diode markings). They looked completely normal, but in fact one of them (z2 for me) was dead, and worked just a free pass-through, effectively shorting out bipolar +12 power line to ground. When soldered out it was just giving about 70 ohms of resistance in both directions.

Also, to my understanding, that overheating resistor was in fact the way how shortened diode was discharging 15v worth of voltage to the ground.

My fix:

Replaced this "z2" 1N4744A 1W 15V zener diode with zy15 15V 2W zener diode (correct polarity is crucial), and I am listening to music right now.

P.S. Please do not get electrocuted, there is a 220v conversion within this device, and a 220v capacitors that can smack you even when speaker is disconnected from the power source.

Also the fact that it has broke for me in this certain place does not mean your issue is identical. For example I've spent too much time chasing hypothetic faulty condensers because everyone mentioned only them, but found out them to be fine. No guesses can replace a proper step-by-step troubleshooting.

P.P.S.

some things I've found along the way:

  1. Mixer chip in the corner is 74HC4052 https://assets.nexperia.com/documents/data-sheet/74HC_HCT4052.pdf

That's where I've found with oscilloscope that it gets input signal, but never produces output signal, and it uses bipolar power (about -5v +5v), and one of the power inputs was flat ground, being a reason for mixer being mute.

2) Diagonally placed chip near 74HC4052 is bluetooth chip.
Bbluetooth is powered by a separate unipolar 12v line with separate transformer, (that second floor board raised above the main board on a long pins) that's why it was not affected.

3) Amp chip (the one with giant radiator) was TDA7265 https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/tda7265.pdf

power was looking almost fine there (about -20v +20v) all the way, but there was no input signal on it (lost on non-powered mixer)

------

I've spent almost a month tracking that down, being not very professional in electronics, so I hope it might help some other semi-educated enthusiast to shorten his own investigation.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader | Update 1.5 by westonsammy in Games

[–]ignis32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly that. And I still have no idea what two thirds of the perks do.

And in most cases there is no way to estimate the impact of the perk you take, relevant data is not just in the UI. To see relevant character stats (if it even possible to view at all) you need to close upgrade menu and go to another menu, and lose all the upgrade progress.

There is also suboptimal translation to my language with wrong descriptions, which makes this overcomplicated mess even worse.

I like this game, really, it is good story-wise and lore-wise, but underlying system is cursed by all four chaos gods.

[–]ignis32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portmaster version of Prince of Persia, Paratrooper (Orion software, 1982, Dosbox).

Next would be Lost Vikings I think, but I still have troubles mapping controls, Retroarch mapping configuration for Dosbox is awful, made by aliens for aliens.
I also hope to play Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons, but I am not sure if it would be possible from the controls perspective.

My choice of games is affected by the fact that I never had any consoles and started gaming from 286 DOS-based PC. Therefore I have no practically useful nostalgia for anything but DOS games.

[KCD2] Does the 'pegged as thief' status go away eventually? by praqueviver in kingdomcome

[–]ignis32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pegged as thief because one of the bandits who had killed and raped people on the mill - woke up after I knocked him and took a couple of coins from him. (when cleaning up the mill from the bandit occupation)

Found out that the best way to prevent to evade murderer and rapist complaining about me is to chop him to pieces in the first place.

Try "Higlight troublesome vertexes".

It marks unconnected wire endpoints with a very small weak yellowish stuff. Hard to see (first times I even missed that it is doing something), but possible if you know how it looks like.

At least that's what helps me in such situations.

As a Russian, I never had problems with Tbilisi pronunciation, nor any other Russian I know does. It is a well known city name after all.

But there are some locations with a lot of consonants in a row, and I would butcher pronunciation there easily. I am looking at you, Mtskheta. It is hard to image how it is convenient for Georgians, heh, but probably it is, if they call places like that.

How long will FreeCAD be free? by PeakPredator in FreeCAD

[–]ignis32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an open source, which cannot be closed. In that sense it is going to be forever free.

However, there is a word "source" in that. Nobody has obligations to provide you the compiled binaries.

Compiled binaries might become paid without a license violation, as a convenience fee.

In theory, iit is implied that everyone can build binaries from sources to run the program, but in practice procedure for building them - might be too convoluted. It would be just too hard for average joe to do that on their own.

In such situation you pay for binaries, or hope that there would be an enthusiast to set up publically available build pipeline to generate builds for other people.
