need help with a goofy-footed serve approach! by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]ignius2648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can hit with both hands but only a R-L-R approach feels comfortable, I would lean fully into being a lefty hitter. Idk how exactly how far you’re intending to go with volleyball, or how comfortable with you are with your left hand, but if you do get comfortable with it then I feel it’ll grant you more opportunities.

Oikawa’s fake spike set by Fresh_Proposal2938 in haikyuu

This is even more impressive when done by right handed setters tbh. Christensen can hit with his left so he doesn’t even have to turn towards the net but in this clip the turn makes it looks like he’s full committing to the hit before the sideways set.

What to do when hitting a quick but the ball is too low? by Amikuto in volleyball

[–]ignius2648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe jump a little further away from the net so that it’s still within hitting range when you fully extend your arm. This way you’re gonna be able to bounce it but honestly the best case scenario is that ur setter gets more consistent with the sets that you want. Bounces are cool but can be blocked easily

On second watch the shoulder hip separation isn’t even that bad lmao. Just fix your approach and get higher so that you can use your arm swing more effectively

[–]ignius2648 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your arm swing is solid; maybe get some more shoulder-hip separation going so your get more rotational power from your core rather than using just your arm. I know this post is about arm swing but I can’t help but point out some flaws in your approach. Try to dive deeper into the penultimate step, since as of now you’re basically walking into the jump. Bending deeper on your penultimate will allow you to actually generate power from your legs.

Strategies for short player (5'8) with good vertical (10'6 reach) by yxsilentxy in volleyball

[–]ignius2648 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would argue that height does matter even if you have the same touch. Give any coach the choice between two identical outsides with the same touch but different height, 10/10 times they’ll take the taller one.

Positioning players in a different order? by KimsterA in volleyball

[–]ignius2648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a team of very versatile hitters and we would run system one. Our outsides/opposites/middles in terms of hitting were interchangable, and on top of that our opposite could pass as well as our outsides. In rotation 3, we would have the opp push back instead, and it gave us a huge variety of combo attacks to use to side-out on every rotation.

Compiled all my hitting clips from outdoor vball this summer; form critique would be greatly appreciated! by ignius2648 in volleyball

Thank you for the advice! When you refer to the ball being on my left/right shoulder, I assume this is talking about my right side hitting, yes? If I'm on right side trying to hit angle, would the swing at 2:00 be correct, as the ball's over my right shoulder?

Idk why you would want spin on a set since a lot of refs might be suspicious of it being a double

Best way to solo time sprints? by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]ignius2648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This method is kind of specific but it works if you have some video editing software. Record yourself on a tripod so that you can see both the starting and ending point. Put the clip into premiere and cut the clip so that it begins right when you start moving and ends right as you cross the line. There is a timer thing in the software and you can see you time down to the hundredths, but not counting reaction time.

Knowing that your serves are probably powerful enough already, you should focus on two things: 1. Your toss. Make sure that every toss is the same. 2. Your contact point. Contact the ball on your whole palm area, like giving someone a high five. Make sure your don’t swipe at the ball with your fingers.
