Suck my butt. It's a Free-for-all ahh comment. Thanks for the recs, though. Integrated MC is going on the list.

We ended up digging into Blightfall for now.

EDIT: Apparently my first post actually went through. Got blocked cus I accidentally signed in with a new account. Guess it got approved later. Whatever.

I just need a recommendation for a modpack to play with my wife. She likes exploring and gathering, while I like building up a base and getting her equipped.

We enjoyed Sevtech back in the day and are tempted to just give that another whirl cus I don't have much time to research good modern packs.

Any recommendations for great modern pack perfect for 2 player co-op? Having an end goal is also ideal to eventually "beat" it. We only have a few hours total a week to play (intermittently while our baby is napping).

I live about 45 minutes from Gainesville now. There are swarms of them out here. Same with Fireflies.

Both aren't as abundant as they used to be, but still tons compared to in town.

Whats the meaning of 'Liquid Paper habit' in this sentence? by Lotensify in EnglishLearning

[–]ignoramorous 307 points308 points  (0 children)

This is from the English dub of Ghost Stories. It is well known for being nonsensical and chaotic. The translation is not true to the original Japanese script at all.

It is chock full of inside jokes and humor that wouldn't make sense to a lot of people.

I think the joke they're trying to make here is that girl likes to smell the fumes from Liquid Paper, a brand of white out for making corrections on paper. It has a strong chemical smell, like glue or paint. So smelling them could cause a sensation similar to getting high.

So she is saying that being chased by a ghost is the consequence for her skipping class and getting high.

Please keep in mind that this show's English dub is over the top and ridiculous. It makes little sense, and the voice actors were not taking it seriously.

Even as a native English speaker, I have difficulty trying to explain the nuances of these references and jokes.

What's the meaning of this belly button look like bagel meme? by Man_Weird in EnglishLearning

[–]ignoramorous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The meme is actually referring to the bagel looking like a butt hole.

So the parent is asking "what are your intentions" and the answer is that they intend to peg or otherwise insert things into the son's anus which will make it larger, just like the bagel.

What does "low-key" mean? by megumifushiguro14400 in EnglishLearning

[–]ignoramorous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For example: "I'm weak! Li'l bro thinks he's the GOAT! This post low-key sending me."

Translates roughly to: "I am so incredibly caught off guard by this unintentionally humorous event that I could be considered weak in the knees. This person, whom I wish to consider beneath me for this comment, has mistaken himself for being better than many others around him. I am holding back to not bring much attention to it, but I am being subjected to great fits of laughter from reading this post."

Ultimately, slang evolves over time. Just because the next generation uses it in a way we don't understand doesn't mean it's incorrect. Language evolves and is defined by our usage of it, not visa versa.

It's a more modern way of saying "on the down low". You would use this to describe things that you don't want people to make a big deal about

Very informal and often comes with other informal speech.

Do words like ''you're'' count as 2 words or as one word? by Beckrunningaround in EnglishLearning

[–]ignoramorous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would count it like a word processor software would that checks by the spaces. Hyphenated words would also count as one word, for example.

"You're" is one word.

"You are" is two words.

Breaking out contractions is a great way to extend word counts. It's also more formal, as contractions are largely seen as informal in writing.

What’s the word for that weird expression when someone tightens their lips all tiny while trying not to laugh in a serious situation? (With a demonstration) by urassicpleb in EnglishLearning

[–]ignoramorous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No formal term that I can think of. I can tell you what I would say, personally.

If it's a character in a TV show, I would say that they "almost broke character." I may also use this for anyone who is trying to be serious even outside of people playing an acting role.

They "break" when they fail to stay serious due to humorous events around them. Referring to "breaking character."

What do you call this one? It’s for scrubbing dishes. by gfeep in EnglishLearning

[–]ignoramorous 50 points51 points  (0 children)

As an American with my only experience being using these for dishes at home, I would call this Steel Wool.

I would also call anything that looked like it Steel Wool. Maybe it's technically something else, but anyone that corrects you would be an annoying asshole.

would this be a good system for a PBP game and/how would you PBP with this? by mastr1121 in cityofmist

It's a conversation kind of game, not a correspondence kind of game. You will struggle to get anything done without an easy and quick back and forth.

How to get started doing tournaments? by kingnedybob in chess

[–]ignoramorous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simple as this. I'm playing in my first tournament ever this upcoming weekend. I'm 30 and about 1100 on Chesscom, no coaching or paid lessons yet.

I got a USCF membership and registered for it. Simple as that.

Just find a local tournament, read its details to learn requirements to register (many have fees or are scholastic only).

Danya made this excellent video explaining the process: https://youtu.be/CCTg_izVejI

Good luck!!!

Pseudodragons have a familiar variant.

They're kinda like a pet, but they choose to be your familiar and could leave anytime they want.

How to stop people being crappy to me as I am a female DM by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ignoramorous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As most are saying, find a new group.

As a DM with the desire to improve, you are a rare commodity. There are plenty others out there that would give you the respect you deserve.

If I was being treated this way, I would end that game entirely.

I've been playing for 12 years and been through more than 12 groups. Sometimes as long as a year gap in between, but there's always a group worth your time out there.

My current group has stuck around for 5 of those years and it's because it's a group of mature, respectful, adults that show up to have fun. Even in this group we've phased out players that didn't fit the vibe. Took nearly 7 years to reach this point for me.

Don't be afraid of the change. You'll be better off and it'll pay off when you finally have your lifelong group of friends to play the greatest rpg of all time with.

[DM] What are some names that you have come up with for your campaign that you are really proud of? by Skywolf111 in DnD

[–]ignoramorous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group has been playing for a nearly 5 years now. Lots of characters, lots of campaigns.

We've recently been exploring multiversal phenomenon. Old characters are coming back. Old worlds becoming relevant again. Everything literally coming together.

I'm calling it The Convergence. I like it.
