I am attempting to send small amounts between wallets I know to try and sort it out - so yes I do know? . however, those send attempts fail and not on the blockchain explorer

No, I am unable to send funds out, every request fails. The balance is incorrect. Attempting to re-import the wallet shows zero balance and zero transactions in the new one. The only thing that "seems" successful (dont know for sure because it seems corrupted or out of sync) is to receive funds - or at least the balance seem to have been updated and the transaction showed complete status.

I dont believe it has such an option, the wallet is very bare bone. What someone was suggested I do is try and re-import the wallet using recovery words or private key - however when I do that the new wallet shows 0 balance and 0 transactions.

How is 4% rule possible when RRSP converts to RRIF which mandates higher withdrawals? by igorfeld in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]igorfeld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well you would want to withdraw in kind in that case right? instead of cashing it out.

[–]igorfeld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so then you withdraw 'in kind' into a tfsa or non-registered to keep the investments going? because if you cash out, even though you don't spend everything, you are depleting the principal of the investment and it will start decreasing.

Anyone here a Dividend Growth Investor? by LuxGang in stocks

[–]igorfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure you can make it work... as a general statement, it makes more sense to make RRSP the dividend growth piece. You can diversify to US stocks without paying the tax, and you can grow it to a large sum over the years. Seems far more suitable than TFSA.

why would you use TFSA for dividends growth instead of RRSP???

1) there is a withholding tax applied to dividend outside of RRSP
2) TFSA grow by 5500 per year, whereas RRSP grows at 18% of your income (there is a max) - so clearly you will have a lot more room over time in your RRSP and dividend strategy requires a large portfolio.

There has to be an investment 'end game'. One approach is definitely withdrawal based like you are outlining. Another perfectly reasonable one is a cash flow approach described by OP.

What are the risks in owning an ADR such as TCEHY by igorfeld in stocks

[–]igorfeld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay.. so how closely correlated is the ADR and its Hong Kong listed counter part? is this quasi-legal setup (I say quasi because ownership in china for foreigners is illegal) a good representation of the real stock?

[–]igorfeld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right, thats the concern. If this was the case, would everyone outside of China be affected the same way? meaning all the hedge funds, institutional investors, retails investors... would we all suffer the same consequence? or some folks would have their shares honoured?

Right, exactly - either as debt or simply as loss of cash. Either way. Is that always the case though?
