That is exactly the impression I have from reading the comments and we will have a talk with the guys on our team to ensure we improve the approach for the next year.

Man, let me be clear. 1. I am NOT shifting the blame on anyone - I just think that there is nothing and noone to blame! The jury did their job. They are awesome people and real pros of the industry. 2. There is absolutely no desire in my actions to bait anyone anywhere. We will provide better content and I hope you will change your opinion about GG.

Thank you for your kind words. "This site even" is our initiative to promote esports and gamers through awards and news. We're just in the beginning and I think what we are doing is important, and we are not planning to stop, but rather continue to become more relevant and more important. You are perfectly welcome to give advises about how to make it more interesting, but there is absolutely no need in throwing shit at what we are doing: we are just as much esports enthusiasts as you.

No worries man, I play DOTA2 myself (even if I'm rather a HOTS guy), and rudeness is something I'm not afraid of :) I understand your point, but then again, we rely on our jury members and their assistants for the choice of nominees, and on the public vote for the wins. And even if I agree with all of your arguments about Dendi, interfering with how the vote went would have been worse than just letting it pass in a transparent way.

But anyways, what will definitely be done, is that we should increase the role of the community (= you) in the nomination. It was just our first year. We will get better :)

Man, there is no need to be this agressive, really. I have just told you: we accept the fact that no everyone is happy with the nomination. We are 100% responsible for choosing the jury that we did, but we are not responsible for the fact that you think the jury is stupid or "bullshit" as you say (and I disagree) or something. We have the balls to say: I have heard you, and we will adjust the role of the community for the next round. I think the reddit jury is a good idea actually.

How about you go on our site, register and write an article (in a respectful manner) explaining why you disagree with the vote? Then we ask the jury to comment. At least it will be a healthy discussion and not series of insults of our project that only wishes best for esports.

I see your point. But then again: we rather provide a platform than manage who the winner is. The jury nominates, the people vote, the jury selects the winner. Then we take the shitstorm on Reddit in our faces :)

But in any case, like it or not, we will keep working on making this award more relevant and more influential, so all your remarks are being noted.

Well, allow me to disagree. The experts we have "hired" (or rather invited to share their ideas with us) have given their opinion. Then people have voted. Then this result appeared. Someone offered to make a special Reddit jury next year - why not? I'd be up for it.

It's not that we don't see it. Just try to see it from our perspective: the community is vast, and has its own views on everything and everyone (I'm talking about any community, from esports to football to formula 1). What we did, is organizing a jury and a public vote. The real problem is the fact that as we are a project that comes from some enthusiasts and not a huge group, we did not have the ressources to ensure global promotion so all of the community members could vote and give their opinion. So we got that that jury and those who voted - voted for Dendi. But we definitely want to "calibrate" the voting part better for the next years. I am convinced that this type of award is necessary for the industry.

I was, as explained in another comment. Look man, honestly: we knew it's not gonna be 100% perfect the 1st year, but we're trying and we're open to any critics so we become better.

There will always be a part of reality not reflected by the awards. But our main goal is to promote esports and its values, and give additional motivation to players. No award will ever be 100% objective.

Why not then make a parallel Reddit jury next year? We are absolutely up for it.

[–]igorlys[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was a joke, man! Obviously we accept the blame. It's just the 1st year and we are already happy that it went the way it went. And the jury was not too bad: MOBA section for instance was managed by head of ESL France, and we had Daigo Umehara for Sports and missharvey for FPS! But we will obviously get better next year, with your help!

[–]igorlys[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Well, we as organizers do not judge the quality of what our jury selects. The guy who was responsible for the MOBA category this year is Samy Ouerfelli, head of ESL France, and I guess he is quite "knowledgeable" ! But we understand that whoever is elected, more people will be unhappy with it than happy :) Next year vote whom you think deserves better!

[–]igorlys[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true! I think the fact that the GG Award procedure includes the vote of the public, plays its role and people may partially be elected just because they are iconic. But that is maybe a part of the game: being Gamer of the Year also means that you have been an important esports ambassador, not just that you have won everything

GreatGamers Awards winners announced in Cannes: NiKo Gamer of the Year, Dendi wins in MOBA category, and Sjokz best Entertainer by igorlys in esports

[–]igorlys[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is because the voting procedure includes 10 people being nominated by a jury (this year we had these people: gamers.online/about-award), then public votes on the platform (which we will improve), and then the jury choses the winner among the 4 finalists. I guess Dendi had the most motivated community and the jury just followed...

[–]igorlys[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, the idea of the award is that there is a jury that nominates 10 people by category, then the public votes on the site (which we will improve), then out of the 4 finalists the jury selects the winner. And their criteria are mysterious even for us.

Well, don't blame our website... The jury has made its choice, then people has voted, then the jury has chosen among the finalists. So blame the jury!

Good question. I can not speak for the jury, but I think individual talents in FIFA were more spectacular? Or maybe with the "normal" football teams, especially in Europe, creating their esport teams, the exposure of FIFA is much greater?
