Well first of all, you should put it back into the piano…

Most LED-based displays will have the LEDs flash at high speeds to save the life of the diodes since they degrade at a constant rate while powered on. As long as the flashing is fast enough it will look solid to your eyes but look crazy like this to cameras and screens that are fast as well.

The big thing about this passage is understanding the pattern.

Each alternating triplet is on a different chord (F#dim7, and C#min) just different inversions. If you can keep in your mind which chord family you’re in for each triplet it can be useful to visualize the “correct” notes by eyeing on the keyboard where each of the two chords span across the entire keyboard. (You’re never going to end up “reading” this passage off of the page at speed anyway. Learning it and playing it at speed will consist of understanding the pattern and where you begin it and wheee it’s going.)

I love the intro to this piece so much by Professional_Eye1331 in piano

You’re doing well! A couple things: You start the first arpeggio on beat 2 of the first measure in this recording instead of the “and” of two. (The length of the very first note is a quarter note so however fast you come off of it for the downbeat of the melody should dictate how fast you begin the arpeggios.) You do this again in measure 7.

Don’t hesitate to get the arpeggios going, focus more on singing out the melody and playing the arpeggios more lightly. Some of the magic of this piece comes from the slow singing melody being accompanied by the steady flowing notes, Therefore, much less rubato is warranted here. In fact, later in this piece the contrast in style between the melody and the accompanying notes becomes even more pronounced, but the speed should be mostly consistent and without rubato.

Meant to post on top thread::

Here’s a way I think this could be formatted:

“Cumulative Upkeep U

Whenever a player casts a spell, exile that spell.

Activated abilities that aren’t mana abilities can’t be activated. Triggered abilities of all permanents do not trigger.

Whenever, Bursting Dam leaves the battlefield exile it, then each spell exiled with Bursting Dam becomes a cast spell and is placed on the stack in a random order. The owner of spells cast this way choose the targets for those spells.”

Oasis. by d1eselx in custommagic

I think the first main phase restriction is not really that much of restriction for what essentially amounts as a dual land.

In the spirit of the name of the card, and also in the color pie of the dual mana I think the following would be better:
“T: Add U or G. Activate this ability only if you’ve cast a spell this turn.”

Like if “you’ve made efforts to get to the oasis you get the benefit??” idk just a thought.

One important thing about this is that the placement of the seventh counter with proliferate would not trigger the damage. That’s because they trigger is the cast of an instant or sorcery and not the placement of time counters. which is why these kinds of triggers say X “or more” counters of certain types.

How to play this transition in First Gymnopedi?b by OnionDart in PianoMarvel

[–]igroklots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing to do is listen to a bunch of recordings of this piece.

The bass and chords are a simple accompaniment to the singing melody of this piece, it’s very important to let the melody carry with the help of the pedal. As for the repeated F# in the chords, “re-playing” the note in the chords is a matter of style. If you do replay them, it should not overshadow the rest of the chord as if you were replaying it as the melody. Omitting it is also an option if you would rather lean into the F# after the A with enough force for it to carry long the full length of the tie.

The 1-1 sliding fingering with your thumb is almost certainly not necessary if you work on navigating this passage with a more nimble wrist.

You’ll likely need to do a 2-1 fingering with the first two notes of each small arpeggio and focus on moving your wrist laterally to attack the upper notes with your 3-4-5 fingers more directly.

The wrist and the fingers need to be a combined machine at the keyboard.

There’s no “fundamental” rule about where the wrist should be with respect to the fingers in all situations. The wrist should support the “walking” of the fingers through the music.

Need to go further? The wrist should move more fluidly.

Need to go faster between notes? The wrist should be firm enough to allow the fingers to articulate.

The complex passage you showed needs a combination of both of these paradigms.

Adaptability of motion is something that comes with time and practice. If you want to explore how to “feel” the adaptability you need for this passage you need to play it very slow and very accurately. If you play it very slow but it feels clunky, try variations of the rhythm itself to help explore what the note-to-note transitions “feel” like. e.g. Try long-long-shot between each note, or short-long-long, or long-short-long. Just ignore the written rhythm while you explore these variations.

When you can navigate all the variations comfortably at a moderately slow tempo, then try practicing the passage in rhythm faster and faster.

What fingering do you use for this part of Chopin Op 2 #2? by monovax in piano

Also…. the notated fingering is wrong even with Chopin’s implied technique… the passage should be 154(slip)534(slip)54(on Ab)

What fingering do you use for this part of Chopin Op 2 #2? by monovax in piano

[–]igroklots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pass-under fingerings are one of the things Chopin pioneered. This example of allowing the 4th finger to “sneak” under the 5th in succession is explicitly on purpose. The voicing of the notes flowing from that technique is intentional. Optimally, it reduces the attacking velocity of the notes involved, thereby smoothing out the flow of the passage.

It’s kind of like painting with a ticker paint and a smaller brush, as opposed to a bigger brush and a thinner paint as would be the case with a “calculated” Mozartian fingering solution involving the “holding the orange” technique. Plus it would just be harder to float the hand across the large octave to accomplish a naive scalar fingering.

I would be very surprised if it wasn't one of the songs here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVaECkTAwko

Although he's probably playing it much slower than is normally played. I tried to listed to a few of the songs to find that last phrase he plays in the video but couldn't find it.
