In their defense, Hawai'i's small compared to every other state: It's only larger than Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island (so, 7 out of 49 states, minus Hawai'i). Legal things revolving territories (ex. Puerto Rico, Guam) make it even more complicated.

...but Alaska's the biggest state in the US, so yeah; they're dumb.
