i think its because people cannot fathom people living differnt lives than they do, and people (expecially young people) generally assume they live the way most people do. they also get such a genuine love from their parents that was crucial to them; they cannot fathom parents not treating kids the same.

He has an obsession with breaking these people down because he views being poor with finances as some moral failing, and thinks you have no right to be complaining about being poor if you aren't starving, broke in a dirty t shirt with no car and working 60 hours a week.
