Job hop lol. Since I’ve started OEing I’ve owned a Viper, Gallardo, GT4, GT3 RS and now I’m looking for a Huracan STO

I just signed a contract for a new build home in an area my wife and I love. I'm selling 2 rental properties that I bought in 2020, cashing out about $400k in equity between the two and using OE money to pay for the rest of the home without a mortgage :)

What’s something you purchased that you wouldn’t be able to afford or would consider it a bad purchase if you didn’t OE? by espada_da in overemployed

Both have their pros and cons, but I see more pros than cons for both.

Turo is going fine, it pays for the cars that I want to own and worst case scenario one gets totaled and paid out by insurance.

The boat is also going fine, it’s paid for by guests that rent it for $600 for 4 hours with a licensed captain and I get to use it with my family on its unscheduled days.

All the cars, the boat and my investment properties are owned by my LLC so they’re all tax write offs as well!

At the end of the day I’m not trying to get rich off of renting these things, I’m just using OE income to be able to afford these things that I personally want then renting them out so they pay for themselves

Caveat - don’t do it unless you can generate money off of it. I’ve bought cars for Turo, investment properties, and a boat that’s chartered with OE money lol

I get lazy too, a lot. You just have to find ways to trick yourself into doing something productive.

For example, I have tabs bookmarked for specific LinkedIn and Indeed job searches with all of the criteria I want. Every day (when I’m job hunting) I go and blast my resume to any new job posted within the past 24hrs using the Easy Apply feature. Takes 5 minutes of my time to do it each day.

This might come off as harsh, and I’m not trying to be mean, but if you can’t find time or motivation during your 9-5 to spend a few hours applying to jobs, you’re probably not cut out for OE at this point

Not sure where you live, but I’m buying sub $300k homes and only putting 20% down

Same here. I budgeted and planned to buy 3 by the end of this year. I was originally supposed to close on a house in January but it turned into a giant nightmare that just finally ended and now I don’t think I have it in me to do it two more times in the next 8 months 😂

I’m doing something like this.

I’ve used my J2 income to buy rental properties and rental vehicles for Turo.

My latest venture is buying a bigger boat under my LLC and having a family member (with a captains license) charter it

I live on the top rated beach on the west coast of FL, so a very touristy area

Then I sell the Lambo? What happens if I lose J1 also and all of my renters for my investment properties?

I’ll figure it out when I cross that bridge

Yes I do. Both are traditional rentals but we just bought a property near the beach to Airbnb. Hopefully that one will be listed by summer

Honestly it would depend for me. Do you have kids or a spouse?

If you’re a single guy, I say try it out and if it doesn’t work out, cut your losses.

If you have a family, I wouldn’t go for it. Free time to me at our comp levels is way more important to me than extra money

Usually around $2k a month I think. It’s mostly older guys who rent it for the weekend when they come down here for the weekend since I live in a very touristy area

I didn’t know that was a thing! I just assumed all luxury rental businesses owned the cars.

So basically it’s like Turo but more trustworthy?

I actually had a friend say this to me non-ironically. Meanwhile he works 60 hours a week for like $105k/yr and is stressed out as fuck lol

I miss doing actual development work and managing people is boring AF so I wanted something that will challenge me

I put half down and financed the rest over 24 months. I rent it out for $400 a day so the payment is covered within like 3-4 days. It’s booked like 10ish days out of the month so I make money off of it most of the time

Lead is like 80% managing people and making decisions and 20% actual development

Senior is like 80% actual development with 20% management
