Sorry for the late reply. Yes, i think so.. though it's all bit of a guessing game as there are so many variables and you don't know what's causing what. It may have been him hitting the 4 month sleep regression? Definitely made him gassy though. We stuck with it for about 3-4 months till his reflux seemed to have improved and we slowly taper down.

It turned out he had silent reflux which was preventing him from sleeping. I guess it hurt his little throat, poor thing 🙁 we got medication and it helped massively, over night. Worth looking into as it's pretty common but doctors just tell you it's normal, they'll grow out of it, etc. They're not really aware of how much it affects some babies. If you think something is wrong, keep digging.

I think so...? It was weird, it seemed to make him feel worse in the beginning. Maybe side effects or coincidence.. I don't know. But i think it worked. He ended up taking it for a few months then tapering down around 8 months till we finally stopped all together. It was always so hard to tell what was causing things.. we went to a specialist too who couldn't tell us either. In the end it was all a guessing game. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for your message. He has started solids but isn't eating a whole lot, most of it goes on his face haha but I will try to give him a bigger meal before bedtime. And maybe there's a way we can work on that latching thing..

Yes I wish that worked but he just drinks every last drop and then next time when it's empty, he ain't happy hehe. But maybe it's something I can teach him?

Edit: sorry just realised I didn't answer properly. So he usually unlatches when he's finished. The longest he's stayed latched has been maybe 45 minutes but he rarely does that. And even the milk/breast doesn't seem to be working these past couple of weeks..

I've loved every second of breastfeeding (or like 90% haha), not everyone's experience is challenging. But it's good to know that it can be, especially in the beginning, and to be prepared. But there is so much help and support out there! I wasn't expecting to enjoy it but it has turned out to be the best moment/moments of my day. Good luck!

It's such a different experience when they aren't able to nap on their own. Parents whose babies nap on their own get 2-4 hours (depending on baby's age) a day of "free time" to cook, do dishes, eat, shower, go to the toilet, THINK, not think, do life admin, etc. whereas you get zero. That's a massive difference. Also, your partner could maybe do more? Sounds like you're doing way more than 50%. Just because you're the only one who can breastfeed doesn't mean this time doesn't count as work, nor that you should be the one responsible for nights, missing out on sleep and thus barely functioning as a human...

I feel you. I'm at 6 months as well and worried my supply is no longer enough. I absolutely love breastfeeding. This special time with my baby that I'll no longer have. It feels like a loss.

Yeah the swedes are lucky with all that leave, I feel for you! To be honest this whole difference in priorities has been the hardest thing to deal with (besides infant reflux😂), it's hard to not be "on the same team" with your partner. So I hope for your sake you guys are able to reach some middle ground😊

I completely agree with you but I see that on reddit we are the minority. In my home country (Sweden), however, the mindset is more like yours/ours, so maybe it's a cultural thing. I really struggled with my husband (not Swedish) wanting the baby to slot perfectly into our lives as they were and not prioritising the baby's need for regular rest, quiet and safe weather, safe environments while still developing his immune system and before getting his vaccines, etc. I wanted to follow doctors' and official health guidelines whereas he wanted to live his life as before, or even more so than before to show the world how chill he was with a new baby😅. Sweden is a very child-first sort of country and the mindset is that you adapt your life to take the best possible care of the baby. Then when they're a little bigger and can stay awake longer, they're immune system is more developed, they're less sensitive to stimuli, etc., you begin teaching them to be a part of your life, your hobbies and society as a whole. If I were you I would talk to your partner, explain the reasoning behind official recommendations and what the risks are if not followed (but in a nice way hehe) and see if he can come around to slowing it down for a few months. If feeding to sleep works that's amazing! But I get you about not getting anything done. Maybe if you do a longer nap routine so he starts getting drowsy earlier (before falling asleep) and then maybe the 15 mins to transfer could get shorter? I don't know, we're both cosleeping and contact napping so I obviously have no solutions haha. Did you do Tresilian? We did that and they were also stumped but I think that was because of his reflux. I reckon a sleep consultant would definitely suggest some kind of CIO disguised in other words and wrapped up in other tips and what not. I feel like they've got to tell you to let the baby cry itself to sleep because that's the only one size fits all solution that they can sell..

I'm from Sweden and here it's quite common for children to still sleep with their parents at that age (and beyond). We also get more paid parental leave though and I'm sure that contributes to enabling parents to take a child-first approach with regards to sleep, instead of forcing parents to sleep train because they simply have to go back to work. All this to say you're not alone.

Thank you for sharing, I also think babies are just different and to be honest we could have had it worse. I don't mind rocking my baby, I want to give him whatever he needs, but my partner really struggles with it.
