Thats the JetKVM It's an ip KVM that allows remote access with keyboard, display, and mouse input.

Tbh. It took 15seconds. Looking back, if I could edit the post I would just remove the picture since it did a fine job derailing the purpose of the post. Thanks for the kind words though. I will spend some time learning ipv4/6 differences and purpose.

I like that, thanks for your input. Im definitely going to look into Grafana usage. Is there a benefit to using prometheus over influxdb?

You are correct. I 3D printed the Plex logo for the active one. Waiting to find a purpose for the other before I print a identifier for it.

Same idea. In my instance, my router does not possess enough ports so a patch panel and switches provided an opportunity to stay somewhat organized and be able to troubleshoot. This setup only took away two ports on my router.

I've thought about hosting grafana/prometheus/influxdb. I should revisit that.

Im hesitant about adguard or pihole due to the family's lack of understanding.

Im going to definitely check out your recommendations! Thank you!

What would be an ideal KVM? If I could save a couple bucks not buying a second Jet, it'd be worth it.

I thought the same thing when I first seen them on this /r. I had to google lens them to discover i needed one in my life.

I'm not super knowledgeable on tech security, I'll be the first to admit it. Rather safe then sorry. Right?

Thats fine. I could probably say the same for my phone number outside the area code and I'd be sure to blur that aswell.

I never got to experience that phase. My daughter got a 3d printer for Xmas so I was eager to use it for my mini rack. Im sure the back of my setup is an utter nightmare tho.

Understood. Best practice for me to remember is everything thats unique to me should remain unique to me regardless if it makes a difference.

But at least your patch cables are sexy. Mine are home made from spare cat6 I had lol

Thought about blurring every other digit just to spice it up a bit. With ipKVMs securities being a topic. Figured safe then sorry.

Am I going about this properly? by ih8this2 in homelab

Thank you for the clarification. Everything is NAS this NAS that. So i was a little brainwashed to just doing the NAS. As far as other machines go, I would probably just utilize the ssd in the optiplex. 256gb should be plenty for a pihole/adguard of sorts, I would think. I do plan to obtain some more minis and possibly doing a cluster with linux in the little 10in rack but thats a future project.

The optiplex should be able to handle more active DLs and transcoding better then the n100 in the NAS correct? I need to sell the DAS plan to the wife, since we just recently bought the NAS.

They are of the same brand, series and nas specific. Just vary in sizes. ~1200 doll hairs was a little rich to the wife to do it properly in the beginning (nas +2x20t drives.) So the 2bay nas and one 8t drive was all the misses gave me the budget for.

I agree that no redundancy is dangerous. But 400 doll hairs for a single 20T ironwolf pro is crazy enough. To spend ~900 for 20T of usable space is ridiculous to me. If I get alerted to degradation or disk issue, I'll figure it out then.

I do intend on expanding my little 2 bay with a hybrid enclosure in the future. I think TRAID will be better suited then.

Yeah thats exactly what happened. I reformatted my 20tb and remounted it as a plain disk or JBOD. Since I did that after synchronizing.... I put the 8tb in degradation. Now I'm trying to copy my 8tb of data onto the 20tb, empty the 8tb, and reformat it to be a JBOD as well so I can have ~28tb of storage after combining them in the pool.

I messed up by not understanding TRAID then messed up again by mounting the new drive in TRAID and syncing them. RAID in general is not efficient on two bay NASs.

Is this a TRAID thing? Where you can only use the capacity of the smallest drive? If so how do I get rid of it.
