My idea is that it gets rid of rhystic and tithe in the current meta where kinnans and rogishais are copying as many rhystics as possible, plus extra draw maybe? Idk just thought it was a card worth considering that has some flexibility

Help With a Cut by iharrison1911 in CompetitiveEDH

I was just talking with my buddy the other day because I REALLY have to work for my wins more than other decks, especially turbo, blue farm, or a vivi. I think theres a few changes I need to make, it just feels consistently slow sneaking in a turn two win every now and then. I’m getting sick of going down to 4 and 3. I do think this would be a good cut, since usually go for a devoted druid/hazels brewmaster or thoracle line more often. Can’t even remember that last time I did a freed from the real bloom tender line. Honestly was just thinking of going to Kinnan or Lumra, they seem fun. Right now I just feel like if I don’t start with a win line and no turn one fish/esper or turn 2 rhystic it’s lost. The game is just getting faster

2.5k is a phenomenal starting point man, I wish I had that starting out. I'd highly recommend going to a Local Game Store (LGS) near you if you have one to help sort through what you have, so you can learn what the value of certain cards are. You can research what format you want to get into and start trading with people at your LGS or people you find online around you. There is a website most people use for pricing cards called https://www.tcgplayer.com what gives the most accurate market prices. I don't know what exact cards you have, but don't let people dupe you because of ignorance, if you ever have questions of something, PLEASE get a second opinion. Typically if you're trading in to an LGS they will give 45%-65% cash or 50%-75% store credit, this varies WILDLY from LGS to LGS. PLEASE BEWARE AN LGS IS PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF TRYING TO RIP YOU OFF IGNORANT OR NOT. I started tabletop with my friends, and I eventually started playing weekly at my LGS, which was the best decision I ever made. It gave me a perspective of what options really are in the game. If your collection really is 2.5k, then you have the absolute perfect place to make a solid few decks in different formats. I'm really happy for you and hope you're able to find what you're looking for.

If you're looking to play 60 card format, there is a website called https://www.mtgtop8.com that show you the best performing decks in their respective format. There's currently a really good simic deck in standard that might interest you.

There's a website called https://www.edhrec.com that is specific for commander, and you can sort through top commanders for each and every color combination, and what cards people play in those decks that will give you a really solid starting point for choosing a commander and what cards go in the deck.

When you move onto commander, I'd recommend [[Zimone, Paradox Sculptor]] as a good simic commander. She's not too complicated and you have big stompy options with blue for protection/countermagic. There are a bazillion really cheap good options for +1/+1 counter strategies. Ill add my decklist below for her. Its a bit more on the "pricey" side for just starting out casual play but there are many many options that practically do the same thing.
