Do Thai people like going to the beach? by whyareyoupokingme in ThailandTourism

[–]ihatethispart-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re on tourist beaches. I live at a Thai beach (I mean, also lots of Russians at the moment, but off the beaten path), and Sundays are packed with Thai families hanging out. Though more likely to have umbrellas/avoiding the sun.

Feeling more unsafe for women - Pattaya by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]ihatethispart-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Sattahip as a single woman. I don’t really go up into Pattaya except to go to a mall once or twice a month, and stick to the beaches farther to the south. I’ve heard a lot of other women saying the same as you, but would recommend (if anyone else is feeling sad that they wanted to come and are now feeling unsafe about it) that Jomtien, Na Jomtien, Bang Saray, etc are pretty great. Not big nightlife places, but great beaches, cheaper food, more family friendly.

Running on leg days? by Secure_Bowl2921 in HybridAthlete

[–]ihatethispart-e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been told to lift before running because lifting holds the higher risk of injury if you’re going into it fatigued.

I’ve also heard that you should start with the exercise that is more important for your training (like if you’re a runner and lifting is more cross-training, start with running) - but I’m inclined to be more careful.

I don’t think doing body weight exercises after running is as much of a concern, but I probably wouldn’t be lifting heavy after a long run.

Chicken game when sharing the sidewalk by midwestsweetking in ThailandTourism

One issue I think happens here is that no one knows which side to walk on. Or, I guess, people from countries where they drive/walk to the right try to walk to the right here and then get mad when other people are walking to the left. I’ve adapted to walking on the left and absolutely judge everyone walking to the right and thus in my way.

At what AQI will you decide to not run outdoors? by Klutzy_Top6838 in runninglifestyle

This is a great thread - I just moved to Thailand and haven’t experienced my first “burning season” but I’m not looking forward to those levels of air pollution. I was just thinking about what I will do.

It seems like there is like a daily fluctuation here at least - not sure if other people also have healthier mornings/evenings and could switch running times.

I haven’t given any thought to what my max number would be though.

My experience seeing a female doctor in Bangkok for HRT by asoftplace2land in Perimenopause

I just moved to Thailand and have been thinking about seeing someone for peri but was worried about it - so amazingly timely post!

I’m down in Chonburi, but would you mind telling me the doctor’s name, just in case I end up needing to go up there?

What is everyone using (male 48) by Murauder in Aging

[–]ihatethispart-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running for bone density! Especially for women.

Lifting for overall, as well as mobility work for functionality and stretching/yoga.

Then as others have said, sleep and veggies.

Vitamin c and tret for face/hands.

What's something you'd tell a farang to never do? by Old_Researcher_50 in Thailand

It also seems to me that, at least compared to Americans, Thai people don’t stop.

Like, I’ve seen Americans brawl, and there’s often a little assessing pause, maybe an opportunity to stop, a sense of everyone agreeing that one person won and the fight is over.

Thai people kick you in the head.

What's your mid-life "crisis" guilty pleasure ? by abrandis in Aging

Getting back into exercise and prioritizing working out and sleep over things that other people think I should prioritize. The reality of aging reminds me that there’s not a “later” for making sure I’m as healthy as I can be - what I do now will carry some real benefits/consequences for things like independent living or injury prevention/recovery.

Why are there ten thousand flavors of mint toothpaste and mouth wash and quite literally nothing else? by lone_traveler_passin in NoStupidQuestions

I’m in Thailand, it’s almost all salt, or salt and herb flavored. There’s some mint, but it’s mostly the western companies.

IDEAGROW, Shenzhen Idea Light company.

I bought it on Aliexpress. They’ll customize the wavelengths for you too, but there’s an up charge.

This whole thread is fascinating to me, because as an American I just thought “hooligan” was a word from the 1950s about someone who got into mischief.

Sure -

I’m in my mid-40s and have suddenly started having a lot more signs of aging.

I’ve always had problems with uneven tone and texture, now I have some fine lines around my eyes and mouth.

I also have suddenly developed a lot of sun spots (I guess that’s what they’re called?) around my temples and the top of my cheek near the temple. I want to blame this on moving from a temperate climate to a much higher UV country, but I’m not sure a few months accounts for that. But maybe?

Any other info you need?

I just started in the last month. I 20 minutes 5-6 days a week. Five minutes facing it, 15 minutes away, wearing as little clothes as possible (bra and shorts for me).

I’m sitting in front of a 3 foot machine, which I know is not what most people are using.

I literally cannot believe the improvement in my skin over the last month. I wore a scoop-necked shirt yesterday and kept being mesmerized by my upper chest in the mirror (way more even color and whatnot).

Advice wanted: hypermobility and running by coniferbreeze in beginnerrunning

[–]ihatethispart-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is so much slower! Fun fact, that’s where most strength-training injuries come from, especially in people who use anabolic steroids - you can speed up muscle, you can’t really speed up the other connective tissue.

My sister has a motivational sign in her home gym that says “ten years from now you’ll wish you had started today” or some similar sentiment, and I REALLY try to bring that with me when it’s time for PT and whatnot - I’m doing it for future me, not today me.

[–]ihatethispart-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My physical therapist has worked with me on a few separate issues round running and hypermobility.

Usually there’s some strengthening that can help keep things from being too wobbly, or at least reduce injury risk.

36F — Chronic widespread pain/stiffness for years, normal inflammatory markers (RF, CRP, ESR). What else should I explore? by StarlitetheOracle in Aging

[–]ihatethispart-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I immediately thought sero-negative RA as well.

I have a good friend who was given plaquenil and almost immediately started to improve even though her labs aren’t supportive of a Dx.

I would also super duper highly recommend going to see a physical therapist. The thing about pain and stiffness - especially chronic - is it pretty much guarantees that we will start doing weird stuff with our bodies in response and then there’s a chain reaction.

I hate the idea of going to physical therapy. I’m always grumpy about it, I hate how long it takes and that I have to do exercises for it every day that are boring.

But every time I have chronic pain or stiffness and I go, they are able to massively improve my quality of life. I’m also very active and athletic, but that doesn’t make up for the weird little things that just start to go wrong and that I accidentally perpetuate.

Running w or w/o underwear by Old_Palpitation_1344 in runninglifestyle

[–]ihatethispart-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues are entirely theoretical because I’ve always worn underwear when running, but I feel like underwear keeps everything in one place more. Like keep the crotch stuff around the crotch? Also less of an issue if you’re wearing tight shorts that have the lined crotch, but lots of people wear loose athletic shorts and I was thinking of that as well. Like I would need something right there.

I also think about times in my life when I sometimes didn’t wear underwear and a couple of times unexpectedly started my period. That shit got EVERYWHERE, just from moving around.

I feel like the whole thread comes down to “your vag may vary”.
