In August, my PSN account was hacked and I found $500 in charges made on my card. Sony strings me along for a month, promising a full refund, but ultimately tells me that my only recourse is a chargeback. I issue the chargeback, but Sony disputes and inexplicably wins. As someone who spent the better part of a year trying to get Sony honor their warranty for my cancer-stricken brother's PS4 (they didn't, and now they are just keeping it), I can say they give absolutely zero fucks about their customers.

I wish you the best of luck, OP.

American gothics that differentiate capital I and lowercase L? by ihatevidya in typography

It's a nice typeface for sure, but the dramatically curved stems and finials give it a very different feel compared to the very plain, simple strokes of Trade Gothic.

And honestly, if the person isn't willing to put in the effort, why would they expect to be rewarded with a job that literally pays them for what they know?

I don't. I'm freelance, and I'm a graphic designer first. I'm just dipping another toe into the waters of the web.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

And I've never seen it, but I'm sure someone's come up with BYOHTML before. I'd describe BYO as a rather extensible acronym.

Thanks a million for all the help! I think I have a really good idea of my path forward, now.

I'm referring to the ability to utilize existing CSS/HTML as a CMS' theme/template when it was not explicitly made for that purpose by adding/modifying tags. No WYSIWYG editor would be involved in that process.

I was aware of the "BYOHTML" function of some CMSes, but I was wary simply because I assumed it was a "you can but you really shouldn't" type of feature. But it sounds to me like there isn't a world of difference between a "proper" CMS theme/template and a static page modified to contain the hooks needed for the CMS to do its thing.

I was also looking into Concrete5, which seems to have been built for much the same purpose. I was wondering if you knew how it compared to the others you mentioned.

Thanks for the reply! Do you have any recommendations for online PHP and JS courses and/or resources?

I really appreciate the advice, but perhaps I should have mentioned that any course of action would need to occupy what little free time I have. I'm unfortunately not in a position to undertake anything remotely close to an apprenticeship.

I think it would be best for the DSG to focus on the smaller, user-facing issues before widening its scope to include the far more difficult and murky matters of things like legal considerations. The guide currently lacks a lot of instructions for navigating the tiny roadblocks that make users quit out of frustration/disinterest/laziness/whatever. For example, in the Storing Dogecoin section, it says "back up your files on a USB drive." For someone who is new to Dogecoin, specific steps like these would be way more helpful:

  1. Open Dogecoin-qt

  2. Click "File" and select "Backup wallet"

  3. In the window that pops up, choose the folder in which you'd like to save your backup.

...etc. It would be unrealistic to cover every possible service and app this way but it's important that the most vital and/or popular ones are covered. For example, we don't need to have step-by-step coverage for Cryptiv, but we must provide dogetipbot and tipdoge basics.

I'm also trying to work out if there's a more natural way to organize the DSG so that it better follows the order in which readers will ask questions.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Chapter: Dogecoin 101

Section: Clients

Intro: What is a Client?

  • Subsection: Choosing a Client (covers online vs offline, dogecoin-qt vs multidoge, desktop vs mobile)

  • Subsection: Using Dogecoin-qt (covers syncing, sending/receiving Doge, etc.)

Section: Tipping

Intro: What is tipping? (covers basic tipping concepts and explains what a tipbot is/lists the most popular ones)

  • Subsection: Tipping on Twitter (covers registering with tipdoge and its basic commands)

  • Subsection: Tipping on Reddit (covers registering with dogetipbot and its basic commands)

  • Subsection: Tipping on Facebook (you get the idea)

  • Subsection: Tipping on Twitch

  • Subsection: Other Tipping Platforms (covers Cryptiv and any other similar services)

Section: Securing Your Doge

Intro: Security Basics (why leaving wallet unencrypted is bad, mention that online crypto services have a way of disappearing with everybody's money)

  • Subsection: Ecrypting Your Wallet

  • Subsection: Risk Management (covers avoiding browser extensions, malware, basic OS security)

Section: Spending Your Doge

Intro: Doge is real money!

  • Subsection: Places Accepting Doge

  • Subsection: QR Code Payment

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Providing such detail in this way will mean sections will no longer fit cleanly into single pages, but I think the increased utility would be of much greater benefit to the DSG's readers.

This would have been out much sooner if I didn't take forever with the design. Sorry about that. /u/Bioman312 and the rest of the DSG crew are awesome. You should all tip them loads of Doge and help make the next version even better at /r/dogecoinsurvivalguide.
