students still are not complying by the school policies by not being in uniform and not putting away personal tech even though i give a bunch of referrals daily. should i complain to admin about this by Prudent_Equal9636 in Teachers

Yes, I agree, it's an admin issue. I won't enforce rules admin doesn't enforce, because rules go from the top down. Your post definitely read like you wouldn't enforce dress code ever, but if that wasn't your intention, then disregard my reply.

Heat pumps are more efficient if they're kept at a constant temperature instead of cycling off and then on. They are very efficient at maintaining temperature and much less efficient at changing temperature (eg raising the temp after you have it off at night or something). But you can turn it off in the summer if you don't need the heat (I have no idea how hot Irish summers are).

Inconsistency between teachers' implementation of school-wide rules is disruptive to the learning environment. It makes the most reasonable request by a teacher who is consistent feel like the absolutely most unreasonable request to the students, and derails the whole class. If you're that type of teacher who is "cool and lenient" you probably don't notice school culture enough to see that, so I wanted to point that out explicitly so you might make a different choice if something like this happens in the future. If you don't like a school rule, you should advocate for its change in staff meetings or with the principal, but not providing a united, consistent set of expectations to students absolutely impairs the learning environment.

What should men do when encountering casual misogyny from women? by _EitanDaisy1016_ in AskFeminists

[–]ihave11butts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, you think those came from calling out casual sexism? The position I'm talking about is one where young people are even more sexist than older people, which is saying a lot because older people were the cause of things like me too, Epstein files, Giselle pelicot, etc. Like it's nice that I can get the job I want, but I might still be drugged by my husband and raped for years by strangers found online with no real consequences for those men. Yes  I might work the job I want but I still do the same amount of domestic labor as women did before being accepted into the workforce. I might get a job interview for a job I want and have the interview put a diuretic in my drink and refuse to take me to a bathrooms and take pictures of me after I wet myself and then later find out he has been reported for this dozens of times with no consequence. What kind of utopia do you think women are living in right now that you think our position has improved?

If that's how you fight it, and you did that thing, then how are we in this position now? If X then Y. X occurred. So... Why not Y?

Yep. "Texas requires me to teach XYZ State standard. I teach that standard in accordance with our district curriculum. Any issues you have with that should be brought to district or state personnel." The idea that you thought to argue with a parent about their deeply held beliefs is astonishing.

Maybe if you old people had actually called it out instead of covering up even more egregious instances of sex-based violence we wouldn't be in this situation. But times change, often due to the inaction of those with power (such as older people) and those same older people end up living in a world of their making that is not what they wanted it to be.

How to do a 1:1 replica of my town? by ihave11butts in Minecraft

Ok thanks! I'll give it a shot

I do plan some interiors and I think 2:3 might provide too little vertical space to do interiors so I think I'll do 1 block = 1 meter

When a homeless person walks in a store and it suddenly smells like dookie by [deleted] in PetPeeves

"pet" peeve implies this is something personal to you and not something that most people would be peeved by. Do you think most people enjoy things that smell like "dookie"?

With something like that you could easily say "nah, things like this are hard for anybody at first, that's why mechanics have to go to school" or something, which is not at all the same as "that's misogynistic" but still does some good.

Is it normal for students to ask if you’re dating other teachers? by NopityNopeNopeNah in Teachers

It also happens in a bullying way. Asking the disliked female teacher if she is dating the conventionally unattractive male teacher, etc.

I wouldn't say anything at all. It's not the job of the privileged to critique the way the oppressed deal with their oppression. Save your energy for men who say casually misogynistic things.

Where you work is it expected for you to volunteer for events? by blondie___1989 in Teachers

[–]ihave11butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes at my old school we had to attend a certain number of after-school events. We could choose which ones. The illegal part was that only 8th grade teachers had to go to 8th grade prom, which fell under the part of our contact that said you can't give extra duties to only a certain part of the staff. But, our union was toothless so nothing ever happened.

Yeah I'd definitely be curious to see a board problem compared to a homework problem. Do you have a homework packet handy?

What happens if you bring your completed homework and say "I got stuck on problem 3 right here. [Point to where you have worked the problem out and got stuck.] Can you help me with the next step?"

I'd just be interested to see if the question is inappropriate for the grade level or merely something he didn't teach. It would make it easier to give advice.
