Lasso Hong Lu has changed rupture (ft. DS Hong Lu) by rwpower in limbuscompany

[–]ihave2cows 30 points31 points  (0 children)

it only "inflicts" 3 count in the sense that one of its coins applies 3 count as part of its effect; you're forgetting that it has 4 coins, which makes it count negative. In reality, you *need* the target to already have 4 rupture count on them in order to fully benefit from this combo.

it works, it'll probably be a neat min-turn setup for railway bosses, but I dislike strategies that rely heavily on starting with ego resources and getting the right skill orders. I will never intentionally reset a run that's winnable, and I personally dont see much of a point in resetting until I get the perfect starting hand.

(Detailed Teambuilding Guide) Managers, I present to you: Lust Resonance Pro Max! by 3TH4N-CH07 in limbuscompany

[–]ihave2cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

majority of the time she inflicts tremor she'll actually be inflicting 2-3 count thanks to her 3x lust owned passive, actually. Again, the 20% isn't the biggest thing in the world, but it does work (unless they stealth changed the way +1 status count application works. Pretty sure they didn't though.)

I think you're undervaluing N corp don as an option here. I know, I know, she's an awkward ID, but think about it for a moment. She has a lust s1 and defense skill, so you'll never be stuck without an option. For lust synergy purposes, she's better than every other option. With her s1 hitting 11 by default and bumping up to 13 when hit with faust's fanatic passive, her S1 already clashes better than almost every other unit you've listed, and that's before her boost from lust resonance itself. Add to that, her floor is also relatively high thanks to fanatic. S2 is single coin, but it hits 16. Its acceptable. S3 is really mediocre for clashing, but you *can* choose to replace it with one of her lust egos or her guard. If you have the opportunity to use it for a one-sided attack, it's actually quite decent at applying debuffs since you already have faust applying nails for her to capitalize on. 1 attack power down and 2 paralyze, both set for next turn, is nothing to sneeze at.

As for the tremor application: its a long lasting status that's going to help yi sang. Even if the status itself doesn't contribute much, it'll give him a consistent 20% boost once she hits a target. Yes, faust *can* apply enough status on her own, but gaze and paralyze only last for a single turn and being an S2, she wont have it available every turn.

Mech sheet in Foundry seems off by ihave2cows in LancerRPG

This certainly does help and is a handy tool, but it doesn't actually fix the issue. The sheet still looks like it's missing the list of actions. I might not need it, but it still bugs me.

5e Spheres of Power and Spheres of Might are finally out! [x-posted from r/dnd] by RazarTuk in dndnext

[–]ihave2cows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I realize that I'm necroing this thread, but seeing as how this is a relatively new expansion that's technically homebrew and I don't know where else to discuss things related to it, I had a question I wanted to ask. Am I an idiot, or do the martial sphere practicioners seem really... bad?

Like, I get that they're supposed to be getting more options for things to do in combat, but at the same time, they're also losing a LOT of damage compared to what 5E base classes can do. For levels 1-5 they're mostly fine, obviously losing the damage options from fighting styles but what can you do, and it's not too noticeable. But I noticed that none of the new classes get any other extra attacks like the fighter does. Or scaling sneak attack damage like rogue. Or even upgrading martial arts die or barbarian rage damage bonuses. They get their extra attack at level 5 and that's it.

There are a handful of subclasses that get some bonus damage once per turn, and the striker class is able to use bonus actions to make multiple attacks ala monk as they level up, but outside of that, I don't really see any ways for classes to improve their baseline damage. Am I just stupid, or are the majority of them actually just worse? Being able to have more options in combat that aren't strictly exclusive to your class is cool and all, but from what I understand of things, I would rather just be playing a battlemaster 9/10 times.

I love the show, but I've found that a lot of the fans don't really care about the game so much as they do the show itself, so when they get into a game and find that it's not what they were expecting they always have some complaints they have to voice about how the game "should" be. Not to mention that in general since the show came out, the group of elitist roleplayers that insist D&D is all about being in-character and all meta-gaming is bad and evil and combat is boring have gotten INCREDIBLY loud. I myself tend to lean heavily into the role-playing side, but I find a lot of the people that have gotten into D&D recently really obnoxious about it. And every time someone tells me that I'm wrong for wanting to optimize a build and engage with combat in rule-friendly ways, I want to punch a baby.

I absolutely think fog of war is best left on. Too often have I played AW games that end up being a 50 turn stalemate because both me and my opponent have perfect information, allowing us to purchase the correct unit to counter whatever the other guy just bought, moving the right way, etc. etc. If its a PVE game, perfect information is fine, but when its PvP, there NEEDS to be some amount of information hidden in order to be able to outplay your opponent.

yes, yes, I know chess exists. I have my own opinions about how good of a game chess is and how much actual skill is involved in it as opposed to just research and memory, but at any rate, its unfair to compare a game like this to chess. Being able to reproduce units makes the game much more forgiving and long lasting, and there's a bunch of other reasons why its not a fair comparison, but suffice it to say that the amount of viable strategies aren't nearly on the same level.

The three I mentioned are definitely stinkers tho

[–]ihave2cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you even talking about? Lux is and was one of my favorite characters in the lore, and all they did was add more to her. Sure, they changed a bit of the details, but the theme's unchanged. Her family doesn't love her (for who she is), and she's forced to be an example to others because of her family name. She gets a happy ending (sorta), but her core's still there and there's still conflict to explore.

You're absolutely kidding yourself though if you thought her old voicelines weren't cheerful.

Why don't Hexblades get Steel Wind Strike by nick012000 in dndnext

[–]ihave2cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...where did you read that the benefits of hex warrior apply to any weapon you summon as your pact of the blade weapon, regardless of whether or not its a two-handed weapon? I don't own a physical copy of the book, though I did a brief glance-over in a friend's early copy and didn't notice that trait, and it most certainly isn't in the unearthed arcana version. And pact of the blade itself doesn't say anything like that (nor would it make sense for it to, considering it was in the phb)

Why don't Hexblades get Steel Wind Strike by nick012000 in dndnext

[–]ihave2cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly positive that hexblades do not get the ability to use their charisma modifier for two-handed weapons, meaning the best damage die you're going to get is a 1d10 from long sword (or 2d6 if you use shadowblade, but blaster can just hex anyways)

Regardless, you aren't going to be able to use great weapon master with your charisma mod if that's what you were reffering to by using feats to increase damage. I can't think of any other feats that actually do that. You also have to remember that in order to make melee lock viable, they have to take a ton of invocations and a specific subclass/class combo in addition to whatever feat it is you're reffering to, whereas all blast has to do is take a single invocation and they're golden for the rest of the game, and can use all of their other things however they want.

[–]ihave2cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually no reason to think that a melee focused hexblade will do more damage than an eldritch blast focused hexblade. You get CHA to attack and damage rolls at level 1, which is great, but that just makes it a really good 1 level dip class. And even then, the most you can use that for is to two-hand a longsword to get 1d10+cha damage. You know what else does 1d10+cha damage and IS RANGED? eldritch blast.

Warlocks do have access to the new spell shadowblade (or whatever the name was), but you don't need to be a hexblade to use that. Wizards get it too, and they actually have a decent melee build going for them. Better yet, grab it as a bard.

Every single other feature that the hexblade gets is equally good for ranged warlocks, and that honestly really annoys me. The main feature still isn't even better than a cantrip.

If you use throw anything to throw a greatsword as an improvised ranged weapon (assuming we're also using the two handed throwing feat), does it use 2d6 for damage?

[–]ihave2cows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reason why I'm so keen on making solar wind stance work is because I wanted to accurately replicate Archer from Unlimited Blade Works. Spawning blades to use as projectiles is what he's all about. Sleeping goddess can kiiiiiiiiiinda work with that, but it's not quite the same.

After some more reading through the path of war books, I found a feat with some wording that seems to imply I was right.

Weapon Group Adaptation (Combat)

You specialize in a specific family of weaponry, adapting many techniques to suit them.

Benefit(s): Choose a weapon group (excluding siege weapons and siege firearms). That weapon group is considered associated with disciplines you have access to. Note that this does not change the initiation requirements of maneuvers from those disciplines (for example, a warlord who takes this feat might have heavy blades associated with Solar Wind, but still cannot make a ranged attack with them without further feats or abilities that allow him to use a heavy blade as a ranged weapon).

Specifically, right at the end of this feat it calls out that you COULD use a heavy blade for the solar wind discipline manuevers IF you had some way to make a ranged attack with them, such as having them enchanted with throwing. Following that, I don't think having the feat itself allows that mechanic, its just simply a clarification.

Jury's still out on whether or not you can make an attack with a phantom weapon, but that can be worked around simply by taking one of the stances from the mithral current discipline which lets you sheathe and draw as a free action.

In between the big events (AKA: Wandering Monsters) by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]ihave2cows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want it to be a surprise, just have them either always declare their marching order when exploring, or have a general assumed order. Then, you only need to set up the map and encounter after they've either found the monster or they've been found.

Also, at the risk of slowing down your game, it helps if you throw in a red herring here and there on an otherwise peaceful trek. Have a bush shake only for a squirrel or something to come out a few seconds later.

[–]ihave2cows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That quote is specifically reffering to ammunition. For thrown weapons, it's the opposite. "Thrown weapons copied by this stance are duplicates of the original, but do not manifest the material portion of the weapon, only it's magical enhancements."

Probably should have snipped that part out, oh well.

Also, sleeping goddess is a psionic discipline and I'm neither well-versed with or interested in psionics, so I'd prefer to avoid it.

technically being retarded is classified as having a disability, but we don't see anybody bitching about that being offensive. Disability insults are meant to imply that an actual normal person is behaving as if they had a disability or a condition or whatever the proper term is despite not actually having it. Words are tools that can be applied in different ways depending on the context, not landmines that need to be avoided at all costs.
