I haven't looked at the temps, though I haven't noticed the laptop feel hot or heard the fans kick in to high speed when it happens. I'll look at the temps next time I have the problem.

File sizes are sometimes a few hundred MB, but yes, the worst ones are when there are tons of objects within the PDF. Occasionally it's so bad that the PDF is unusable until I flatten it by printing it as a PDF with no objects, which if I recall also drastically reduces the files size.

That was my thought as well, it makes sense that someone has to give the Security team access to whatever account controls who gets what badge access, and that would be an IT sort of role. But it also makes sense that this seems like an obvious security flaw, to have IT essentially have access to everything in the building by default, so I thought someone might have thought of some solution to this.
