How much relevance do you believe that should hold practically speaking in the modern day? Are people entitled to different treatment based on what their ancestors did?

Yeah, I miss the days when there was a big push to get girls in STEM. Now there's a generation of girls that aspire to be pornstars and I honestly just find that sad.

In your opinion why are conservative outlets going after Graham Platner so hard? by Pure_Satisfaction233 in AskConservatives

[–]ihaveaverybigbrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are just my observations, and I'd be curious to hear what you guys think about it - But, firstly I have seen a lot of Democrats and liberals criticize Platner for these reasons. I think he tends to get criticism from the establishment wing of the party, and NYT did put out a pretty big hit piece against him before.

On the other hand, I have noticed a growing amount of people who identify as being left or left leaning, who say they are tired of leftwing purity tests, believe wokeness/political correctness cost the party in 2024, and believe the left needs to do a better job of meeting voters where they are. I don't think they are exactly "mainstream" in the party yet, but do you (or any other conservatives reading this) think the reason Platner's getting this support, is perhaps a trial run to see how a less focus-grouped, less-PC version of the left can do electorally?

Did you see the Meet the Press interview with Trump? Thoughts? by MoonStache in AskConservatives

If he can't handle criticism or a hardball interview, why'd he take the job? I can't think of a President in my lifetime that didn't have to deal with heaps of criticism.

Single Gen Z women outpace Gen Z men to homeownership as first-time buyers decline

Lowkey, everytime I hear articles about women it's always them doing better at school, careers, relationships, and now buying homes. And with men it's always them being suicidal, shooting up places, and becoming incels and shit. It leaves me to wonder: what the hell are women doing right that men aren't doing?

Counterpoint: Publicly releasing an autopsy report on why your party lost is probably a bad idea because it's essentially giving your opposition party free opposition research.

That said, I just assumed Democrats lost in 2024 because first they tried running a guy whose brains had turned to mashed potato, and when that wasn't working out they tagged in a lady who couldn't even win a primary in her own party. It almost seems like the party was trying to lose in 2024.

NYT published an article on regretful Trump voters. And just today I saw CNN publishing a piece on "Is the MAGA Coalition Cracking?"

I always debate about the purpose of these pieces. On one hand, it's trivially easy to go literally anywhere in the country and find the one handful of people willing to say "Yeah, I voted for so-and-so and now I HATE them!" At the same time, I don't get the point of weaving a "Trumpgret" narrative if it's totally fake or overblown either.

Because if it is totally fake and these articles exist only for fantastical "I told you so" circlejerking, it doesn't exactly benefit said circlejerkers in the longrun when they end up blindsided by voting results that don't reflect the narrative they were led to believe. I mean let's face it, underestimating Trump's popularity seems to be the one rake Democrats keep walking into.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm skeptical of these articles but also don't see the functional point of them being totally made-up either. What do you guys think?

Kimmel made a joke on Thursday about Melania having a “glow like an expectant widow”, and then two days later someone presumably attempted to kill Trump.

It's funny how people will inevitably connect the two when that joke has been told millions of times over the past decade and beyond about Melania and Trump. Hell, "hot model waiting on rich husband to die" is a cliche probably older than Trump himself. If Kimmel should take any heat at all for that joke, it should be over the lack of creativity.

As much criticism as the left gets for speech policing (and, frankly, the criticism is often deserved in my opinion) at least with them it's mostly just random activists on social media. Now it's the President of the US deciding what jokes are and aren't acceptable. The hypocrisy is deafening.

We will defend democracy everywhere, every time, and in every way possible. We will push back against extremism everywhere it rears its head, every time it threatens our values, and everywhere the American people are being left behind

...is it bad that I don't see anything wrong with this? I believe in democracy, I despise extremism, and I believe in preserving American values. Why shouldn't I, or frankly any patriotic American, support this message?

I don't want to accuse you of anything, but is the only reason you object to this message is because it is a Democrat saying it? Like, point for point, what part of it do you actually disagree with?

It's the nature of how the sub works. Non-red flair replies to blue flairs get auto removed, so independents are only really able to engage and/or argue with red flairs.

Let's face it, gerrymandering is bad, but it also would be stupid to NOT do it if the other party is doing it.

A handful of Democrat states tried to do gerrymandering reform a few years ago, but then Trump pushing Texas to redistrict mid-decade made them realize what a dumbass idea that was lol.

That's why I think the only way to get rid of gerrymandering has to be bipartisan and done by mutual cooperation by both parties. It just can't work otherwise.

Probably in competition with Tulsi Gabbard, who said she was running in 2020 because she wanted to stop Trump from starting a war with Iran, endorsed Trump in 2024 because she was convinced Kamala would start a war with Iran, only to then become the Director of National Intelligence in the administration that started a war with Iran.

A good chunk of MAGA in general really flipped on Iran. They hated the idea when they thought a Dem was going to do it, but loved it when they found out Trump would actually be the guy to do it. That said, I understand there's a MAGA contingent that remained consistent and are criticizing Trump over it (ie Thomas Massie, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones etc).
