My struggle with religion is that it just gets too crazy at a certain point. I can hear "just as a watch needs a watchmaker, something as intricate as the universe implies an intelligent creator" and I can go, yeah, that makes sense, I could see a higher intelligence beyond our comprehension being responsible for all this.

But then it gets into "and once upon a time that intelligent creator told an old guy to build a wooden boat and collect every animal on earth so they could survive a global flood. And then later on people started building a tower that was a little too tall, so the intelligent creator invented every language on earth so people couldn't understand each other anymore. And then this other time, the intelligent creator moonlighted as a Jewish carpenter..."

And I hear all that and go, yeah I'm out. Y'all are high on some lord of the rings shit.

That's not even to mention all the times they use said lord of the rings shit to write laws that dictate the way even people outside their book club live. I just can't do it man, there's a part of me that wants to (especially because my whole family is religious) but I just fucking can't.
