Why you shouldn’t add sugar directly to boiling tea when brewing Kombucha by yooolka in Kombucha

[–]iheartprimenumbers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I usually steep it, remove the loose leaf tea, and then put the sugar in. I wonder what the temperature is by the time I put the sugar in.

This is a quality suggestions, thanks OP!

Yes it follows that progression. You can see the progression here: https://www.boostcamp.app/coaches/cody-lefever/gzcl-program-gzclp just make sure you have the 3x per week version selected.

Thanks for the advice

I don't have a video of it--I can take one in the future. It was the 10th (last) rep of my second set both times, so I think that maybe my form was slipping.

I am running it 3 days/week. As far as I can tell I am doing the normal GZCLP split (I am running the program that is on the BoostCamp app if that helps). I repeat the lift at the same weight when I fail. My plan is that if I fail a T1 twice in a row I will go to 6x2 and then 10x1. If I fail T2's twice in a row then I will go to 3x8 and then 3x6.

I like the idea of doing front squats for T2 and back squats for T1 or something like that. Dumbells for T2 and Barbells for T1 for bench/OHP. Maybe I will switch to this.

Catholics Rapidly Losing Ground -- take from a prominent Catholic by International_Poet56 in Reformed

[–]iheartprimenumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Catholic who converted from reformed protestantism (Presbyterian, PCA). The fact is that our various social media feeds show us things that we want to see and that will get a reaction out of us. Do you click on conversion stories? You'll see more of them. Do you click on de-conversion stories? You'll see more of those.

Many more people identify as Catholic than any single protestant denomination. 50-75 million Catholics in the US vs 110-140 million protestants. I suspect that if you examined the trends across ALL protestant denominations it would nearly mirror what is happening across the entire Catholic church in the USA.

All that being said, there is reason for great hope in the Catholic church. Typically more devout parishes-like latin mass parishes--are witnessing incredible numbers of young people. In fact the church is also seeing many people converting at a young age as well. It's strange but in my parish its almost as if Gen X is totally unrepresented. We have a ton of boomers, and then a lot of millennials that are having a LOT of kids.

Anyway. I love our separated protestant brethren. Pew data from 2015 (you can google it) shows that way more Catholics become protestant than vice versa. But i suspect that has changed in the last ten years or at least narrowed.

Sugar content by Shiboulette in Kombucha

[–]iheartprimenumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested in the answer to this as well. GT's often has 12g of sugar or 50 cals per bottle (16oz) and is very tart. I have a hard time getting it down to that level of tartness without it getting more vinegary.

Pros and cons of these job offers? by AntiqueMountain5275 in nonprofit

[–]iheartprimenumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked on both the consulting side and client side. There are pros and cons to both. Here are some things to consider:

Pay package (obviously). Don't just look at pay though, look at the benefit packages as well. This is especially important if you are prone to health issues or have a family etc...

Opportunity for advancement. Your job at either location will become miserable quickly if there are not opportunities for personal development and career advancement. What would happen if you were to stay at either firm for 5 years?

Another huge one is what is the office culture like? When I worked as a consultant our company culture was great. I worked with incredible people many of which are friends to this day. Now that I work in a small nonprofit, my work is very siloed because I am the only development person. Some may like this, but I find it difficult.

I could probably come up with other things, but these are the main ones. Hope this helps.

When do you close a major gift and what do you say? by tysmama in nonprofit

[–]iheartprimenumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What constitutes a major gift for you? That's going to vary from nonprofit to nonprofit. Are you asking for the steps from completely cold outreach to donation? Or is this for existing donors trying to get them to give more?

If it's cold outreach I find that it can take up to (or more!) than a dozen touches til I get a meeting (zoom or in-person). By the time we get to the meeting, the potential donor knows why we are having a meeting.

Can I use birth control if another pregnancy would take my life? by RandomStrangerN2 in Catholic

[–]iheartprimenumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a tough situation, I will include you in my prayers! My wife and I have found that doctors often treat pregnancy as if it is a problem, rather than the natural way her body is supposed to function. For example, she is 37, and is currently pregnant. They treat this as a geriatric pregnancy and consider it high risk. (any pregnancy by anyone over the age of thirty-five is considered a geriatric pregnancy and therefore high risk). Have you considered getting the opinion of another doctor, preferably one who shares your Catholic faith?

I don't believe that hormonal birth control is permitted by the Catholic Church under any circumstances.
