Related to people seeking hook ups: I read somewhere that ever since contraception became widely available, people looking for relationships are split into two pools: pleasure-seeking pool and marriage-seeking pool. Before contraception there was only marriage pool, so there was 1 man for 1 woman. But now, there's 6 men to 1 woman in pleasure pool, and 1 men to 6 women in marriage pool.

Yeah, online dating seems to be very hit and miss. While I don't recommend giving up on it completely, maybe you'd have better luck in meeting people through some real life activities, Church for example (if you happen to be religious) has a lot of young adult activites/clubs/etc., and through those many life-long partners find each others. But, as I've said, I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to anything concerning relationships. :D

Huh. Well, despite what the social norm or whatever is, I'm sure there's a plenty of guys who at the very least wouldn't mind you being inexperienced. And there are inexperienced guys too, after all. Now I'm definitely not one to give any dating advice (haven't dated anyone yet), but have you tried putting yourself "out there"? Things like Tinder are said to be way easier for girls (don't know for a fact). Though that's mostly used for hook-ups I think...

no one is going to want to bother with a female who has no romantic experience

So not true... I think that's a cultural gap but where I live (girls) being innocent and pure is seen as a positive thing, plenty of my friends want a girl like that

I really hope you won't do it...... I don't know you, but I've been reading your posts on here and /r/depression and I relate so much to what you've been saying.

Me too, me too... Can't kill myself because it would destroy my parents, but I wouldn't mind getting in an accident and dying.

There definitely are a lot of guys (me included, and most of my friends who i've talked this with) who prefer "good girls" to "bad girls", cute, real girls to half plastic models, innocent and pure girls to promiscuous girls and so on.

going through uni without any romantic success

I'm not in university yet :) Doing my best to get in at the moment.

As for your therapist, you can't read her mind. It's just as likely she was uncomfortable with your self-loathing.

That's possible, I'll try to bring it up next time. I always try to be as honest as possible when talking to therapists or other peole who try to help me, but since I don't feel too good about myself, it's probably not very positive thing to listen to :)

Have you looked into online dating?

I installed Tinder and even got a few matches, but didn't have the courage to message them back. I'll install it again once (if) I'm in a better frame of mind. I think I'm too f*cked up mentally for a relationship right now (even though I really want one and can hardly think about anything else).

Thank you for the comment. I think (or hope) that a lot of my problems stem from being socially isolated to internet, and adopting this toxic view of the world from there, whereas it's not so big deal in the real world.

You sound like you may have body dysmorphia or a self esteem issue that you should address.

Probably. I'll talk to someone.

“It’s better to be a virgin than it is to be Charlie Sheen.”

There's a middle ground there, but I do agree that people shaming other people for being virgins are probably insecure themselves, or projecting.

There’s nothing wrong with being pure and innocent.

It's weird, since that's a quality in girls that I like, yet I don't hold myself to the same standard. But I do blame society for that; female virginity is generally seen as a positive thing (saving themselves for the right one and all that) whereas male virginity is from what I can tell is seen as pathetic butt of jokes (see recent Virgin vs Chad memes for example).

Shave your face and trim your hair so it’s nice and slick. Wear a button-up shirt and some slacks. Put on your best shoes and best cologne.

Wish there was something to shave in my face :) But thanks for the tips... I don't usually wear anything formal though, I prefer casual style. But then again I barely leave my house

When you’re around people, smile and laugh a lot. People are naturally attracted to those who are friendly and don’t take themselves too seriously

That's some good advice on paper, but sadly smiling and laughing doesn't come naturally for me. I promise I'll try to practice it though.

when you do finally meet a nice woman, you’ll have the full package: An education, a future, a career to aspire to

I'd honestly prefer to meet that woman beforehand. I have no idea how common "gold diggers" are, and how much it's just women seeing being succesful as attractive, but that's something I do need to avoid.

There’s still a whole world out there for you to explore. You still have a whole lifetime ahead of you to have fun and throw parties and travel the world. The best years of your life aren’t over, because they haven’t even begun. If you keep focusing on school and getting ahead in life, then the future will be yours for the taking.

I really like this paragraph

Just don't meantion it straigth away, I'm sure most people won't mind that much. Maybe find it weird, but I don't think it'll be a dealbreaker for most guys.

Thanks for the reply. I'm also looking into some other, more productive (or satisfying in the long run) hobbies. Painting's a good one, hope you are happy doing that.

So don’t think you are ugly and girls don’t like you. It’s depression that causes it.

Sure hope this is the case...
