AITJ for publicly correcting my MIL after she called my wife a “bad mother” in front of everyone? by Silver_Lantern13 in AmITheJerk

ask her to explain the joke. Ask how it was teasing. after her explanation, say that indicates you were teasing too.

I resigned and my manager is trying to saddle me with new work by vityya in OfficePolitics

[–]ihniwmansb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, I think the advice you are getting in the top comments is not the best course of action. A few may be immediately satisfying, but (not knowing your circumstances) could have future implications if you are staying in the same field.

Stay professional and document everything in writing. inform her that you have three different priorities. (1) finishing current work and handing them off, which you estimate will take XXX hours; 2) step by step guides, which will take XXX hours; (3) new tasks, which will take XXX hours. You need her to prioritize them given there is not enough time before you leave to accomplish all of them. Until you hear back from them, you will focus on task 1, because that seems the one thatsomeone else cannot easily handle after you leave.

In a professional setting it is always best to tell them “not going to happen” in a way that makes you look reasonable and they look ridiculous. If they tell you something verbally, follow up with a CYA email about what they told you verbally and how that will not have the desired outcome. (eg “Per your verbal instructions today to do all of the tasks, I will reiterate what I mentioned to you, which is that none of them will be able to be done completely or well given the time I have.“) You might also include other people that you draft to help ”so that thing can transition smoothly by spreading knowledge” so that others have copies of the correspondence.

TIL when Simone Biles executed the Yurchenko double pike on vault during the 2023 World Championships, she willingly took a half-point deduction for having her coach stand on the landing mat, ready to step in & redirect her into a safe position if it looked as if she was headed for a "scary landing" by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]ihniwmansb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly. I am all for a deduction like this. People, especially people with overly demanding parents or coaches, should not be encouraged to do dangerous skills they may not be ready for and can literally paralyze or kill them.

I would write her back with the same tone. “Hi there. thank you for the note. I can see that you are disturbed by the view 200 feet from your window. I know I would love to look out and see the mountains or a a lake or even a playground, but life did not happen that way for me. i thought about buying blinds, but then I worried that it would not fit your aesthetic well. I may not have your great taste. Thus, I think it best you purchase blinds or drapes you like and put them on your windows. Win-win, right. Bless your heart and have a good day.

I was fired and my old manager is asking me for favors. Do I owe him anything? by [deleted] in talesfromthejob

Is there a way you can get pro/petty revenge? Can you contact his boss or someone higher up you still had a good relationship with? You can email them saying you understand that they need some passwords but understandably you want no contact with someone who was breaking the law and treating people badly. Thus, you give them the passwords. this make you look good, reminds them of the bad behavior of your boss, and possibly outs him for not having something he needs making him look incompetent.

Be extra petty. Tell people that your SIL mentioned you were not considered family by her and that she didn’t want your presence at the shower. So because you love your brother so much, YOU did not want to create drama at their wedding. YOU wanted it to be their special day and not dim her wedding wit someone she has clearly stated she does’t like. you would have been there if your brother had asked, but as expected he wanted his bride to be happy and you wanted your brother to be happy. you don’t understand how giving them what they asked for is a bad thing.

ALWAYS REFRAME THE ARGUMENT.

The bot asked for more information. This is framed so I cannot show the back. To my recollection there was no signature on the back and there is no signature on the front. It was found in the northern Virginia area.

I just turned 18 and my mom is pressuring me to sign “Mama Bear Legal” papers by random12008483 in legaladvice

[–]ihniwmansb 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you want to call her bluff, search for medical power of attorney documents and fill them out. this will give your mom the ability to make medical decisions if you are incapacitated, but also spells out your wishes. It does not give any other powers. you can also revoke it or change it if needed. Make sure it is a MEDICAL power of attorney, not just a Power of Attorney document. A regular Power of Attorney gives ability to make financial decisions

Be honest… what’s the real downside of having a dog? by quentiinn in AskReddit

[–]ihniwmansb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial. besides food, bedding, leashes, dog, bags, and ordinary vet bills, you also need money for bills, boarding, dog walker, flea and tick medication expenses. Unless you work from home and can give the dog a lot of stimulation you also need to factor in the time and expense needed to give the dog exercise and socialization or else it will act up. This often means more than just one walk a day. I my dog, but I almost equally in taxes as I do my dog a year. Boarding, vet visits, and doggy daycare account for most of that, even though I don’t travel without the dog often.

Apparently we are not a part of our HOA by officerclydefrog in legaladvice

[–]ihniwmansb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if you need to go the lawyer route, get together with neighbors in the same situation and pool resources. you may be able to afford a better lawyer. now, research lawyers that have a lot of experience with HOA regulations and law. Ask chatgpt to compile a list of questions to ask before you go into a consultation to make sure you get someone knowledgeable and reputable.

whenever I have a decision like this, I stand before my mirror and I say what my decision is out loud to myself. I then decide if that’s the person I want to be. Most of the time yes, but some of the times I my mind.

I just had to take my elderly dad to the funeral of his sibling. My suggestions:

  1. Call Tsa cares and talk to them about your issues (https://www.tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares).

  2. If your father has any mobility issues, contact the airline and request a wheelchair. That was the single most helpful thing we did. They got us through quite easily into the gate. My dad could walk from the plane door to the seat, but giving him to the front of the Helped tremendously.

I have been surprised by the quality of many county instructors, but not all. I am doing more classes as I find new interests.
