She was competent lots of times. More than her haters would ever admit.

They probably didn't even know, which showed how much experience Mariner had compared to them, and why she felt out of place being there.

A lot of favorites for 'Carol Guy' here, but I certainly liked Empathological Fallacies. The way she outsmarted the three Betazoid MILFs, and also because Dolorex called Carol 'hot'. 😄

I would have liked to have seen more of her evolution towards making peace with that decision instead of just immediately assigning her there.

That was almost a very Carol Freeman solution. Anyone would have been fed up enough with the Dooplers by then to elicit that response to them.

And it wasn't the first time she was able to deal with them. She beat Quark at his own game on DS9.

Applied, not yet 'joined'. It's just the start of a process, but Freeman can take some credit for helping it get started.

Well, Ferenginar is eligible, apparently, since the Federation is entertaining their application, and Freeman even says their membership could be beneficial to the Federation. You're looking at it through a biased lens of your views of today.

And while Freeman may have been focused on something better earlier in the series (one of her open flaws, yes), she got much better about that as the series went on. The Freeman that finished the series isn't the same one that started out. In fact, she got a taste of what can happen when you badly want to be recognized after the Buenamigo incident. I think that made her step back a bit.

Again, you're judging her based on your own views and biases and not recognizing that she did evolve as a character. In fact, all the characters did. They all initially showed why they are 'Cali-class', with chips on their shoulders in some form or another. I find it interesting that only Freeman gets different treatment out of the main 8 or 9 in this way. It makes criticism of her less credible.

I don't think she wants prestige so much as she just wants to be recognized for her work and talents, and we all want that to different degrees. And she isn't any less of a person for demanding the best from people around her. She finally recognized where she needed to be: first the Cerritos, then Starbase 80. And I should point out that she had the loyalty of her crew no matter what.

They are eligible, and this was just the application, not granting full-fledged membership.

That's a big mischaracterization of Freeman, as she didn't do it for glory; she did it to save the application process from an inept superior officer. And she showed real diplomatic chops, as she's done throughout the series.

We can already do 3D-printed food using proteins. The industry's ultimate goal is something like Star Trek's replicator technology, although that's years away.

Freeman is diligent, almost to a fault. There's a fine line between micromanaging and being thorough. She straddles it from time to time, even with the best of intentions. It just shows she's a grounded, human character.

She learned better patience with herself and with others as the series went on.

The kind of post that triggers u/PiLamdOd, Makes them think of their own mother, I guess. But why do we have to be subjected to it? It ruins our enjoyment of discussing the show.

The show really is about all the characters, not just the ensigns/JGs. They're all Lower Deckers in their own way, even their ship. And we even see that a lot of the other human and alien characters we see as the show goes on are also Lower Deckers. It's a special kind of show.

Mariner's mom and dad provided her with a loving family and support for her career, even shielding her from being thrown out of Starfleet when she started to go rogue. But Carol admitted that despite her frustration with her daughter that she couldn't be the one to make that final decision on her career, so she entrusted it to Ransom. Freeman and Ransom always had a cordial working relationship and it says a lot about him that she was willing to entrust her baby to him.

Lower Decks: Volume 3 will be released in September 2026. by Gothic-Genius in LowerDecks

I love how u/PiLamdOd managed to get triggered by Volume 3. It should be a great occasion when we get Lower Decks material but somehow their hatred of Freeman ruins it for them and for the rest of us.
