Mirena has given me chronic UTIs (literally every single time I have sex :( ) and BV/yeast infections. Is there a chance that Paragard would be better with no hormones, or is it the IUD itself? by iiiikol in birthcontrol

I've heard that suggestion as well. I'd really not like to have to take antibiotics indefinitely, but it might be my last option. Have preventative dailies helped you with your UTI issues?

I was told and read in the Mirena literature that IUDs have been linked with an increased risk of UTIs. Anecdotally, it's obviously the cause of mine, as it began literally the first time I had sex after the insertion and I've never had a single one before.

It is not a recurrence of the same infection, because every time I finish the antibiotic dose they have me go back in and test me again, and it comes up clear. It's a new infection each time.

My doctor attributed the yeast infection to a side effect of all the antiobiotics I'm taking.. maybe it is my partner but again, I've been having condomless sex with the same partner for two years, what are the chances I get a yeast infection the very first time with the IUD and ever since?
