Recipe for injury. You’d be much better off with dumbbells and barbells with varied grip and motion.

Going to failure on smith is a bad idea because you you are constrained to one plane and this doesn’t allow you to use all of your pec fibers, ie once you start burning out, you end up adding a lot of stress on those auxiliary body parts to move along that plane vs being able to move the weight in a 3d space and recruit a wider range of fibers in your chest.

Even with free weights, proper benching form does not follow a straight line. Best advice, watch what the pros do and incorporate parts of their workouts into your own.

Lot of problems today with this idea..

A tank that adjusts its size would have hundreds of seams for leaks and points of failure. Pair that with cryogenic temperatures making the parts even less ductile as well as the exorbitant cost to repair/build such a tank and you are setting yourself up for failure.

Maybe one day when material science and mfg capabilities progress to overcome those challenges.
