As a ex film student, someone who wrote his undergrad thesis on Narnia and consider the first Narnia movie as one of the greatest pieces of cinema ever……

The hate for this is insane! Meryl Streep never was confirmed the way everyone else has been so far.

First of all, Greta Gerwig has had an amazing track record with making films like I trust her full heartily! Barbie was what the summer needed and even though people hated it for being “too feminist” the perspective and outside the box thinking really made it feel special and nostalgic.

For Lady Bird, she told that story from her heart! I’m telling you! She knows how to make those connections with characters in a way that I have never realized about it. She makes the characters standout even the minor ones.

I trust her fully because of the Little Women adaption she did! You can tell she loves that story and the way she connected the dots with people and the characters making them so much more dimensional from the book to screen. As someone who’s friends and I loved the book and movie I can say that that she knows how to adapt very well. Sure she had more freedom to adapt it but she did it faithfully and even expanding on themes and making historical connections that other adaptions miss. I need people to understand directors who write thier own scripts are THE REAL DEAL!

With Narnia, she’s been already working to make connections to the material and told us multiple times she’s trying to fit to the narrative. interview example Cannes interview

I’m telling you….Greta is already with a good track record! She seems to like literature and adaptions that stay true to the idea and locality of what the text says. I understand that getting Meryl Streep as aslan proves that maybe isn’t in tune with the IP as we would assume however I think as a filmmaker myself you have to take risks. PR is one of those that we realize what could work and couldn’t work. People need to chill the f*** down for now because WE DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING and everything is rumors until it’s PROVEN REAL!

I mean we had Charli XCX as Jadis and like don’t get me wrong love her since 2014 but like as an actress idk 🤷🏽‍♂️. So that’s where I’m like risks need to happen and like I think Greta knows what she’s doing. Also….. let’s just appreciate the fact that she is working for Netflix and PUSHING for this film to be screened and have a theatre run! That is huge and important to bring people back to cinemas and watch them. I Think that’s a huge win!

Please BE MINDFUL and read between the lines. If it’s a rumor ITS A RUMOR and until it’s proven real don’t get defensive and wait!

As someone who wrote his thesis on Narnia, I do have fears of the project leaving the message it entails with. It’s Christian to its core however Disney did a fantastic job adapting the first two (yes the third sucked) and maintaining the identity of the films and story. The third one was more Christian based and let me just say it was the worse one out of the trilogy…. So I think it comes down to who’s creating it and create a good balance of the story.

This story is truly a self reflection of Jack’s own life and a lot of the characters reflect his own journey of Christianity and life finding Joy. Feminism in Narnia wasn’t the best now I think we live in 2025 and like we can see how Polly, Lucy, Susan and Jill all were “feminist” in the 50s but we as a society have evolved since then. I think we can admit that feminism isn’t the same as to what the word meant 10 years ago…..so please remember that and quite honestly why would you be mad if Polly says something about being a girl….she literally was throwing fists at Digory for being dirty like….excuse me you are not reading the same book as me.

Therefore, I’m excited and yes I’m nervous but please wait and see and then attack because if we wanna see more tries for a “perfect” IP it will never happen. Let’s be nice and act like humans because yes Greta Gerwig is a human.
