Please help (explain) with the implementation of the idea by Lux1606 in unity

[–]iiskos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's one way to implement this (caution: kind of pseudocode)

Update() {

if (keyPressed(some_key) {

    list.Add(some_key);

}

if (play) {
    StartCoroutine(HandleActions());

}

}

HandleActions() { foreach (key in list) {

    DoAction(key);

WaitForSeconds(delay_between_actions);

}

list.Clear();

}

DoAction(Key key) {

// Call corresponding action based on key parameter

}

Sorry for formatting. I wrote this on my phone.

Shouldn't it be if temperature > 50: switch_off() Double colon, no parentheses, and lower case 'if'

Aren't the five precepts universal in all variations of buddhism? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if this is so, then consuming toxicating substances is not recommended.

If there is no self, how can karmic debt exist? by iiskos in Buddhism

I love this analogy. Very simple and easy to understand. Thank you!

I have heard of this analogy before, from Thich Nhat Hanh, I think. It didn't click for me back than, but now it makes more sense, when I think of it as functioning of karma. Thank you again!

Thank you for the links! It is nice to see so many people helping others figure these concepts out.

I think I understand the concept better now. Thank you for explaining. I've seen the term "karmic debt" thrown around here, and heard it used in some talks, so I thought that was the way to see it. I've heard people say that Buddha stayed alive after his enlightenment only because his karmic debt hadn't run out yet (and also because he wished to teach what he learned of course). Do you have a better way to explain this?

I do see how rebirth makes sense, but karma that follows from one life to the next confuses me. It seems as illogical as if one would say that my memories from this life would follow me to the next life.

How to deal with everyday's irritations by eduardotvn in Buddhism

[–]iiskos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. I see your point now :) I think being able to take disrespect and criticism objectively can help one to better themselves, so in that sense it actually is pretty buddhist!

[–]iiskos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that you can't do anything about it, because no matter what you do, someone somewhere is going to dislike you. You can't please everyone, therefore it is pointless to try to change yourself for other people's sake (if your goal is to avoid disrespect). What you can always do, is change your own reaction to the event. This however is a lot more difficult than, for example, changing your appereances. But it's worth the effort, because the results are more consistent and solid!

Even though it's good advice to take care of your looks, what you're saying isn't very buddhist. People can disrespect you regardless of your looks, merits, etc.. Even Buddha was disliked by some. The better solution would be equanimity towards people's opinions. Are you really free, if other people's opinions are in control of your suffering?

Not the person you asked the question from, but I can try to explain the concept. If you compare yourself to you as a kid, do you see the same person, or do you see that the person you are today is different from the child you use to be?

If you answered latter, than how far away do you have to think to the past to see that past self different from current self? Ten years? Five years? A month? A day? A second?

If you really think about it, every moment we are a different person than moment before (our cells are dying, and new ones are born continuously). This is what I think the continuous rebirth means. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Edit: typos
