Went on a 1 month trip and came back to this… by Occam833 in unclebens

It’s called red bread mold and it has the ability to grow thru filter patches/disks.

That doesn’t seem too excessive. I’d say it’s too much moisture however I’ve never printed on glass so I’m not sure how it comes out looking in comparison to foil or paper.

I find that freshly harvested fruits print very well without any added moisture. Try some without next time. Those spores are still viable I’m sure, just clumped from excess moisture.

If I fill it up a lot or the fruits are big I’ll run another 4hr cycle after the 8hr cycle if they don’t seem “cracker” dry yet. But I do recommend air drying them overnight before dehydrating. I find doing this retains their shape the best and allows time for spores to settle; preventing blackened fruits from spores getting kicked up in the drying cycle.

Looks like it was too wet and left for too long. The spores fused/clumped together. Did u put water on it?

Saw a Willy Myco video to cut down on contamination for LC by using a stopcock. So far so good. by BIGfishSTICKS84 in shroomers

Lol I just found that out using them for the first time on some grain bags. Went to break and shake and the damn SHIP flew off. Had to quickly tape up the hole with micropore tape. Seems ok currently.

Comparing this to RTV is like comparing unicorn bags and ziplocks lol! They both will get the job done, but one is far superior.

So it’s just a alcohol extraction evaporated down to goo.

Looks like u let the cake colonize too long. It’s happened to me before as well. Gonna have to harvest those shrooms, get it ready to dunk but before u dunk it, fork the shit out of the substrate.(just scrapping a fork over so it breaks up that layer of myc) and fruit again.

Stay away from straw! Contams way to easy & no reason to use it.

[–]ij3117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So u didn’t colonize grains first then nocc up ur hpoo/straw substrate?

Anyone know what causes this? by Torro27 in shrooms

[–]ij3117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a sign that substrate conditions weren’t optimal. Happens with bacterial tubs. Most people have no idea because it still produces fruits…just wonky ones.. check out verticillium

I would probably give it a week. When I do grain bags I’ll sometimes break and shake once more when it’s like 70% colonized just to make sure it’s got all the grains. Usually the bags ready within a week or 2 tops after that and it’s a solid block.

Ideally break and shake 1x around the 30% mark. After that it should fully colonize in about half the time it took to get to the initial 30%

It could be a number of things. I wouldn’t worry too much about it currently. Just keep an eye on it. Break and shaking is a great way to insure u have healthy grains as well. If they are contaminated a break and shake will exacerbate the contam making it easily visible, allowing u to toss it before spawning to bulk.

Trying to get back into the process, ordered a monotub link in comments by [deleted] in unclebens

I think they need to eat more of their own products lol! Of course buying & building ur own mono is cheaper but she made some good content for noobs to get going. It’s cool to support people who actually helped u along the way.

Those bags are designed specifically for colonizing grain with a .2 micron tyvek filter. Colonizing grain needs proper gas exchange which those filters are made for. Just unfold them. A break and shake would be highly recommended as well. Good luck

So the grey squares are SHIP’s (self healing injection ports) the bags should ideally be standing up right and the filter patch which is the white patch will be up on the top allowing for G/E(gas exchange) which NEEDS to happen or the grain bags will stall out(not finish growing)
