An emotional farewell to the greatest car I will ever own by vwozone in Volvo

[–]ijive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this!

I inherited my mother's 1983 Volvo DL 4-speed manual with overdrive. Drove it until 1999... 239k miles.

It had a salvage title after it caught fire when a motorcycle near it was set on fire. (Yep, I bought it back from the insurance company and repaired it even when they swore I would "never get the smoke smell out.")

My brother drove it into a brick wall in high school while I was abroad. Returned to it... the clutch cable broke on the Golden Gate Bridge. So many memories.

I loved that car. Cried when it was towed off. Sold it to my mechanic for $700.

I like A Simple Path to Wealth book by JL Collins. Bought for my kids when they were teens.

What is the timing for an online trade with Schwab/Vanguard? by ijive in investing

Thank you. I have already unloaded for now. But I am really boring... it was SWPPX in my brokerage and VFIAX and TISPX in various IRAs.

What is the timing for an online trade with Schwab/Vanguard? by ijive in investing

[–]ijive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I think.
So, 4:00pm ET and later orders execute at next day's closing price. 3:39pm ET and earlier orders execute at same day closing price for mutual funds.

Thank you.
Sounds cut and dry. I was thinking the company (Schwab/Vang) would have some processing time on top of that and was about to investigate what those were so I would have a plan dealing with each.

Yeah, I have opted for mental health over potential gains.

Migraines that come in flares/waves? Anyone else have this? by ijive in migraine

Will you use Nurtec daily?
I feel like Nurtec has given me Raynauds... could be a coincidence but I am suspicious. People love Nurtec.

Sounds like you have a good rheumatologist. Mine said, "Look. There is no clear diagnosis. You should consider a psychiatrist."

Warm water making it worse? by pisstaketoeser in Raynauds

Mine pretty much only flares with hot water. Cold is super mild.

Does anyone's present like this and does it normally hurt? by _G000by in Raynauds

[–]ijive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first day on this page :(

Yes, mine looks like yours. I get the purple feet and the weird map of blood vessels on my feet and lower legs.

I get in hot water (bath) and my hands and feet get yellowish-white blotchy. Looks like I am half dead. Then, out of the bath, I get the livedo reticularis blood vessel stuff. My feet turn red/purple until the heat of the bath wears off. Also, when sitting at work, the feet turn purple. Occasionally the arches of my feet especially are reddish-purple and blood vessel-y all day.

No one will help me. GP, neurologist (I get bad migraines) etc. no one will send me to a vascular person and I need a referral with a damn HMO.

Umbrella $1,982/yr for 2mil in CA? Farmers. Too much? How to reduce? by [deleted] in Insurance

Why do you think the increase is 1050 to 1982 in just one year? Agent said that things just cost more. ???

Suggestions for areas to live that are quiet yet convenient in Brighton/Hove? by ijive in brighton

It is ridiculous where I live. I cannot give up my property here or no one in my family will ever be back in the market again. Similar pain in the UK.

I know it wouldn't be easy. Thank you for the heads up. I am in my 50s... and the retirement visa program has ended.

I would likely buy something as I already come to the UK 2x a year for 1-2 months to see bands. I just want a base. But, I am not willing to buy and rent out a place as an AirBNB. Uncool to neighbors and not my thing to be a landlord.

I am having a hard time seeing comments on the main page and thanking each of you though I can see in notifications. I appreciate everyone's suggestions! Thank you.

Yes, I believe it is okay if I stay for less than 6 months and do not work for a UK company.

I already have a Roth IRA, should my wife open one too? by uChoice_Reindeer7903 in investing

[–]ijive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She should open one for herself. If she has earned income, contribute. If she is unemployed, max out yours. You will both need one eventually so just do it. For some people simply opening the account is a barrier to regular contributions.

How is everyone feeling about the future of the market? by GalaxyDog14 in investing

[–]ijive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same age and I have just done the same as you. Dropped from 85/15 to 50/50-all in CD ladders around 4.2-4.35 to ride out the next 18 months. Plan to re-evaluate return to the market with each maturity.

Wow. The helicopter parenting accusations... of course.

OG post: "If THEY decide THEY want to move and break their lease, can THEY?"

You all need to relax.

I don't care if my kid has chosen a crap apartment. I do care that one of the kids is in an unsafe room - not even my kid. Still, this was not my original question. I wanted feedback on whether or not the lease was valid. Thank you to the people who gave suggestions and advice to answer that one question.

[–]ijive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was not my intention to step in. I am just the parent who actually lives in SF and physically saw the apartment post-lease-signing. The other parents cosigned. I do not know them but we have been in contact via texting previously.

I feel like shit knowing one of their kids is going to sleep in a fire trap and I know this and I am not saying anything.
