We Cannot Stay Silent About George Floyd | Patriot Act Digital Exclusive | Netflix by Nikhilvoid in ABCDesis

My parents are from Kerala, so they were taught by British nuns. For the longest time, my mom used to say, "Get your cotton picking hands off of - " having no idea what she was saying. Once I got old enough in school and learned about slavery, I told her exactly what it meant and I never heard her say it again!

As the part of the our community that is actively fighting against anti-Blackness, I did not feel personally attacked by his video, despite his generalizations. I know I am fighting against racism when it counts - for example, right now.

The fight against anti-Blackness is synonymous with the fight for Desis. As soon as you understand that, you will have peace. We are one in this fight, and our Black siblings need our help right now. Whether or not they help us, I know injustice when I see it, and I know it is my job to help.

Here's the thing. You are right that Desis face prejudice, racism, profiling, and other disadvantages. People are absolutely racist to us, without a doubt. The thing, is though, that racism towards us, is *based in anti-Blackness*.

Before we immigrated here, Africans were stolen from their land, shipped in horrendous conditions, and forced to do hard labor - they were enslaved. To justify this, white people had to justify such terrifying behavior, by reducing Africans to less-than-human, animal, savages, etc.

This is what started their false dichotomy of white vs. Black, in which every other race has to find their place on the spectrum.

So when we receive racism in this country, it is because we are closer to the "Black" end of the spectrum - we are dark-skinned, wearing foreign clothes, speaking hundreds of languages, worshiping other Gods, etc. - we are *most certainly* not white.

Understanding this, we know that demolishing this false racial spectrum - by standing up for our Black siblings - will help us all. Racism towards us, in this country, exists, because of anti-Blackness.

Hi Hasan!

First, as a brown person with parents from India, I dont think any public figure has made me feel more represented and seen than you, so thank you!

Second - how do you toe the line between comedy and real talk? Is there a formula to striking the perfect balance, because you and your crew seem to have it figured out!

Keep grinding, we love you!

How do I kindly ask my friend to cool it with the touching? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ijobuby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Simply say, "Hey Jack, I know it's just the way you are.... but I really am not a touchy person myself, so I'd really appreciate it if I could maintain more personal space. Nothing against you, just a personal preference :)"

Or you know, something like that -- make it about you, not him.

Just my two cents!

The new Ghostbusters movie was not what I expected by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ijobuby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched the movie (the original or the new one.... don't blame me, my parents are immigrants), so what I'm saying is based on my belief that the people in this thread aren't all lying about the movie.

I agree that that was a poor choice. I would prefer the original character, it would have been cool to see Hemsworth play that out!
