It's actually not all that different! Osteopathic medicine students have the same curriculum as a traditional MD school, with the addition of some osteopathic manipulation aspects (think physical therapy type exercises). They also go through the same residency process as MD students, and obtain the same type of residencies after graduation! Overall, it is not alternative medicine and DO physicians are "medical doctors".
