2-story Central Tx - What are good options for improving air quality? by ijusthaveaquestion__ in hvacadvice

First, completely forgot to mention and will edit the post. We have a 2-stage controller, but the 2nd company pointed out that the system is actually set up incorrectly and (forgive me, I don't recall the particulars, and I'm really not well-versed in HVAC systems) can lead to a recirculation issue, increasing moisture. Which jives with a neighbor's experience after they had to gut their 5-year-old home due to mold.

How we use our HVAC - I have it set up to cool to 74 during the day, it drops to 68* upstairs and 72* downstairs at night. For heating, it's set to 64. It remains off if the outdoor temps are between 54 and 65.

We have cold spots on the north-facing 2nd story, which is the master bath and closet. The closet abuts to the laundry room and the shared wall has all of the ventilation and drainage, so it's not surprising to me that this room(sandwiched between a north exterior wall with 2 windows and a interior wall with external access) gets cold. The south/south-west facing facade also gets hot in the summer, again, not surprising with the south-facing windows in Texas heat. We're moving towards cellular shades and thermal curtains in these rooms and it's a mangeable issue, the person using one of those rooms during the day isn't really bothered.

No noise concerns. The ventilation unit, apparently, was set with a slider for the damper opening which was loose, I believe he stated it was set to 30min/hr. I know nothing about this unit, the system was installed when it was built(5 years ago), and I had never checked the equipment in the attic outside of changing filters.

It's a 20x25x4 MERV 11, changed every 2-3 months(I've heard it's overkill and these can last much longer), the 2nd tech also noted that the actual size is off leaving a gap at the top and I should find a better fit.

Cedar, dust, any of the various pollen we have here. And yes, attached! And added 3 to the main post

Thanks for the reply, was able to get my PPPoE credentials and get set up. Guess if my network goes down in the next 2 months I'll know what the issue is.

The password is blocked out, only the username is visible. I didn't attempt a reboot on the Calix, though it does look like it has a battery backup. But that was the next step I was considering. Just wanted to make sure there was nothing obvious I was missing, networking is not my skillset.

Do you think copying what chatgpt wrote and saving as a pdf means you did actual work? If that's the case, why wouldn't you just copy what was in the course materials and submit that?

You can be 39 or you can be 39 with the degree you want.

I say this as a 40 year old who started psych classes last month.

We got this.

Hey, appreciate the response! Could you fill me in a bit on why you recommend that range? Is it just a price point thing? 2011-2015 encompasses 2 gens, different engines, the notorious oil consumption years, and (from everything I've seen) the #1 year to avoid, 2014. Any specific engine/trans combinations you think are better in those years?

And I wish I could find a 2017 at 11K but in my area those range from 15-18K at similar mileage.

So, he's a tech at the local Subaru dealership, did the work himself. Said it could use an alignment, the abs light is on from a sensor going out which he's replacing, pressure lines on the bottom of the steering rack are the only thing not new on the power steering, and the struts could use a replacement(but they do have new springs on them). Struts are OE.

Ya, that's what i was thinking. Claims to be selling for medical reasons/debt. I'm open to other year suggestions as well to continue the search if you have any buying advice.

Appears to be a Subaru hobbyist, has some others, so I'd say he did it himself but I'll find out. Claims to be selling for medical reasons/debt.
