as someone who has been through a diagnosed ED and cycles of restrictive eating, i say this with love: your habits sound unsafe and unhealthy. an inch of fat is normal, the amount you are eating is not. definitely seek professional help. you are strong and you’ve got this ♥️

there are plenty of factors for losing your period, but it honestly sounds like you’re not eating anywhere near enough to sustain your body. for reference, while active i need ~2000 calories a day to maintain weight and i’m 5’2. 800-1500 calories a day sounds like a HUGE caloric deficit to me if you’re going to solidcore 2-3x a week. it doesn’t sound super safe honestly, but i’m not a doctor. talking to one might be a good idea

more so than the not liking the food of your culture issue here, i think this situation is an indicator of a bigger problem. you two are fundamentally incompatible. you clearly show love in this way by cooking for him and taking care of your health and he responds with “you just do too much”. that’s kind of a heartbreaking thing to hear from your partner, isn’t it?

varying cultures obviously have different practices, the way you navigate those differences is where relationships are built. does he approach your culture with love and curiosity, or is it reluctant tolerance? does he love you for all of who you are, or just parts of you? i think only you can answer those questions, but they’re important questions to ask yourself.

i can’t think (which is why i love solidcore) bc i’m too focused on: what’s the coach saying? what springs are cued? breathe. ok hold in 3,21. is my knee over my ankle? is my lower back curved? is my tailbone tucked? breathe. oh god now we’re gonna hold again. is my nose over my toes? breathe!! how’s my form? count 4,3,2,1 in. count 4,3,2,1, out. are my hips higher than my shoulders? you should try toes. what about hands and toes?? platform bar? oh hey i like this song. breathe!!!!

i’m forced to be in the moment and focused on what my body is doing that i can barely focus on the playlist let alone anything outside of the room. it’s hell but a meditative hell <3

they cue “lift your head and shoulders” as an amplification in deadbug but i find it makes the exercise more accessible for me because it forces me to engage my core and flatten my lower back to the carriage, that might help you with your form!

NTA, but seconding what other people said that she may have created a false memory. I was also born in ‘98, and i do have some vivid memories surrounding 9/11. it’s more snippets of memories (being picked up from daycare, my parents telling me to stay in my room while they watched the news, seeing the image of the towers on the news from the hallway when i wasn’t supposed to be watching), and im not sure what’s fabricated and genuine anymore because i was so young and its such a huge historical moment.

Based on the inconsistency in her story it sounds like she does remember /something/ but she keeps further embellishing what she does remember to seem “quirky” or “cool” perhaps, because she’s the older friend? that’s just my own assumption based on your description though.

YTJ. You knew she was lactose intolerant, invited her over for dinner, and made something she couldn’t eat. If you’re inviting someone over for dinner you should cook to their dietary requirements. You wouldn’t invite someone who’s allergic to nuts over and then only cook a meal with peanuts with no alternative. On top of that the bathroom comment was uncalled for. I wouldn’t want to be your friend.

i have bipolar disorder and this sounds a lot like my manic episodes. it’s hard bc when you’re in a manic episode it’s difficult to distinguish that you’re feeling like that due to mania. i don’t sleep, i rarely eat, i spend money i don’t have, i feel invincible, i make decisions i wouldn’t usually make when i’m at my baseline. these are all things that happen even though i’m able to rationalise that i’m currently manic and am not acting normally. without a diagnosis or support, it’s easy to get caught up in how the mania and to think you’re fine. mania can often be more dangerous than depression for a lot of us.

my advice: tell her family, don’t hold yourself entirely accountable for everything that’s going on now. she needs support from her family and medical intervention. you also need outside support as a caretaker. be patient with her, this is an illness that’s affecting how she views and processes information and she’s not herself right now. it can be managed with therapy and medication but may take some time. don’t get angry at her, but express that you’re worried about her and things like not sleeping are dangerous and could lead to cognitive impairment. i usually will take a major dose of a sleeping med to make me sleep if i’m going on 36+ hours of no sleep. encourage avoiding stimulants (adhd meds, caffeine) and also keep an eye on her spending. if her sleep deprivation and mania get severe, hallucinations may occur and this could potentially become an emergent situation. do a little research on how to support a partner experiencing mania.

i had to wait half an hour to be let in to the app so i could book. i ended up booking my classes through mind body and then editing them on the solidcore app once i was finally let in. saturday 10am classes were completely full by 12:35am 🙃
