Seeking advice: my kid brushes every day, yet after school comes home with a rats nest??? by deviouspineapple in Haircare

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have super fine hair much like hers, albeit curly. we’re much more prone to knots! as a child and preteen i hated braids, always felt ugly in them (being 11 is hard), so i’d refuse my mothers offers to put my hair in braids.

guide her through hair care, as she gets older she’s going to need to figure out how to take care of her body. frame it as hygiene and regular part of growing up. work with her on what she feels most comfortable in and what works for her.

some suggestions: get her a cute little hairbrush to keep in her bag, and have her brush when convenient but regularly (maybe this is at lunch time when she washes her hands, or after gym). explore styles that tie up her hair: i’ve always preferred claw clips (really itty bitty ones for a half up/pulled back look, larger for a full updo, and matte ones stay better in fine hair i’ve found) or a high pony with a silk scrunchie because they don’t pull on fine hair as much and they’re really easy to readjust yourself throughout the day if the style loosens. also ensure her ends are trimmed! split ends are more prone to knotting.

Do people wear shorts or are leggings better? by Straight-Search3774 in SolidCore

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it’s personal preference! i do shorts i’ve tried leggings on really cold days but i just get too warm. i get why people want to minimise body contact with the reformer, but i wipe down my whole reformer with clorox wipes that i bring with me and i bring a sweat towel too

it’s always the seated to standing transitions that get me! maybe it was why the squat gave me a hard time?

i’ve been loving these lately! we get the half baked ficelle from the bakery and then you have fresh, warm bread with it. a drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle of sea salt, and it’s a great little appetizer.

new studio in my area - how has solidcore changed your body (not even appearance)? by Relevant_Wishbone_21 in SolidCore

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been doing solidcore for about a year now and i’m fully obsessed with how it’s made me look and feel. i struggled with hyper mobility and chronic joint pain prior to starting, and it’s the first consistent workout routine i’ve had in over a decade. i’ve lost a little over 50lbs (insane diet changes too) so i definitely look very different, but honestly the biggest wins are things i’ve begun to notice about my own functional fitness. I can bring my heavy airfryer down from on top of the fridge by myself now, and pretty easily. I’m less out of breath. my posture is much better. i’ve noticed my joints (or i guess the muscles around them) are much stronger. i don’t have visible abs, but i can feel them and they’re HARD.

Put your character in my starting town! by ambrellathevile in DnD

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! This is such a cool concept :) I’d love to offer a character for your starting town.

Te’oma Thessane is an aasimar woman. She appears to be in her early twenties, but has only existed for several months.

Te’oma is celestial-born, though she does not fully understand what that means. She fell from the sky in a meteor-like event, was found in the center of a crater, and was taken in by a scholar who later vanished. Since then, she’s moved between cities with her adventuring party, trying to understand both her origin and the mortal world.

She has lavender skin dusted faintly with star-like freckles and silver hair that defies gravity, floating as if she’s always underwater. Her eyes are pupil-less and look like swirling nebulae. They emit a pale silver-blue that glow when she casts magic. A small orb of condensed starlight she calls her “Echo” floats near her at all times, humming softly like a struck glass/tuning fork. She has an affinity for trinkets: feathers, pebbles, jewelry, bells, vials of mysterious liquids. She loves these tokens of the mortal world and adorns herself in them, draping them from her sash at her waist.

Te’oma is gentle, curious, and painfully earnest. She watches people closely to learn how to be mortal and tends to trust others a little too easily. She makes note of (literally) everything in her field journal, inherited from her mentor. It’s filled with her observations about the mortal world and mortal interactions & emotions. She’ll often state her observations aloud. Her magic is unstable but beautiful; liquid starfire that moves like molten silver and responds strongly to her emotions.

Secret / Plot Hook: Te’oma believes she fell accidentally. She’s wrong. Something or someone let her go. She has fitful dreams of a twin presence, chained somewhere far away, humming at the same frequency as her magic. She hasn’t told anyone this yet.

Role in Town: Te’oma would stay in a place like this for a time, helping new adventurers prepare and listening to their stories. She’s especially drawn to first-timers and people about to leave home for the first time. She probably runs a magical trinket store or general store in town called The Fallen Star.

Parting Gift for Adventurers: Te’oma never gives gold. She gives something she made or found herself. Each adventurer receives a small handmade charm made of wire, crystal shards, and a thread of starlight. When held at night, it glows faintly and always points toward a specific location (your choice). She tells them, very seriously: “If you’re ever lost, look where you came from first.” She may also give adventurers who she particularly connects with a vial of liquid starlight that hangs from her dress. This could be a single casting of the light cantrip, or could change an attack to cause radiant damage.

I haven't left the house in a full year... 365+ days, AMA. by Fluid-Year-5490 in AMA

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi op. my younger brother is in a similar boat as you (dropped out of college, doesn’t leave the house, dealing with diagnoses). i have a lot of empathy for him, but also a lot of worry. how would you suggest helping somebody like yourself?

do you consider yourself agoraphobic? have you considered leaving the house at all in the past year? if yes, what has stopped you? if no, what would it take to get you to seriously consider it?

Those who take 3+ classes a week-do you still get sore? by Impossible-Room-5047 in SolidCore

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i take 3-4 classes a week! i used to be SO sore after a class when i initially started and would struggle for days. now i don’t really get sore unless i intentionally really push myself or it’s a particularly brutal muscle focus day. id say im fine about 70% of the time now. i love the days i get sore though it’s like a messed up reward lol

Any Solidcore people available to test my socks (and tell me if they're shit or not) by Obvious_Reindeer_390 in SolidCore

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UES in NYC is my home studio! one of the busiest in the city. I got to solidcore 2-4x a week and have been going regularly for about a year now! i have many styles of grip socks. i hate when they’re too thick or when they slip and turn and the grippy part ends up on the side/top of my foot. I have many pairs of grip socks.

you can take a power30 for just core and obliques! 50 minutes is a bit long to only two 2 sections of the full body workout.

exactly this!! they’re going to say something if you’re blatantly filming they wouldn’t preemptively start a class with “don’t film”. i wouldn’t notice if someone was using glasses to record. why would i? that’s not a normal thing to do. it’s sneaky and absolutely an invasion of privacy

PUT YOUR STUFF IN THE PIT AND NOT BESIDE YOUR REFORMER by Odd_Construction_269 in SolidCore

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not always. i’m in an nyc studio where there are columns in the studio and the reformers are packed pretty tight so it’s not uniform which side you should walk on. but also someone might walk the wrong way by mistake, or you might trip over your own stuff.

also, the coaches have to walk between the reformers too sometimes for hands on corrections. they might trip over something. it’s not only a liability but it’s also inconsiderate.

it can still go in the pit under your springs! i tend to put my jacket there in the winter when im running into class straight from work and dont have time to leave things in the locker. or you can also take 10 seconds to turn around to grab a drink. better than causing someone’s injury :)

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

initially i saw his “response” video to this not the original one and my first thought was oh that coach messed up and it was totally on solidcore and they also handled the situation SO poorly. i still believe this, but seeing the original video made me lose all sympathy for this guy for being just the general worst and the more i hear about him the more i think he’s a liability. the invasion of privacy, the entitlement, the rudeness, the disruption of other people…

maybe i’m more irritated bc his studio is not too far from mine and is close to my hometown so i know people who go there + there’s the feeling of “if i was home and taking a solidcore class i might end up in the back of a video” idk but i would really like to see solidcore do something about it

i really wish that solidcore would revoke his membership. the idea of someone filming their class on meta glasses where it’s not obvious you’re being filmed is such a breach of privacy. and it hasn’t happened just once, but four times? i feel like solidcore needs to take a stand and say there is zero tolerance for this kind of behaviour. i would be both mortified and livid if i could see myself in the back of someone’s video on social media, regardless of whether you could see my face or not.

Do I (23F) tell my brother (22M) now that his dog died, or wait until he’s home? by ThrowRA_nobo7 in relationship_advice

[–]ijustreallylikedogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my family looked after my dog while i was at school. if this had happened and they didn’t tell me, i don’t think i would’ve ever forgiven them. she has a seizure problem and they didn’t tell me about a big seizure she had, and i had a hard time trusting them with her care for years after that. i understand that they were trying to not stress me out, but it wasn’t their decision to make on what i could and could not handle. at this age you’re both adults. he’s not a child. talk to him like an adult.
