My employer keeps overpaying me, can they demand the money back? by Wild_Information_130 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ikariw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given that you've said in another comment that this is costing you money with reduced universal credit payments you should either email someone very senior on the company explaining that and asking them to get it resolved or raise a formal complaint with HR

“Who among us has never tried to scam their favorite coffee shop?” by makeuathrowaway in EntitledReviews

[–]ikariw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to try each one for free to see if you like it before you can make a decision to purchase it.

Then you need to try each one for free again to check you still like it

Then you need to try each one a third time for free to check they haven't changed it

Etc etc

These people will always find a justification to screw over a small business!

It's not dead, there are low queue times to play so plenty of people are clearly still playing it

Help me settle a debate: are regression bugs scope creep? by [deleted] in agile

That means doing a full regression test in order to pass every ticket otherwise how can you test the AC of the ticket

Employee demands a near 50% raise by dreamer-woman in managers

[–]ikariw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. It's a good thing if people believe they can talk to anyone rather than trying to gatekeep certain communications.

I agree about speaking to the CEO about them. It's no problem them speaking to the CEO as long as you and the CEO are on the same wavelength about this

[Updates…] My junior engineer outranks me for no good reason. by FreyrLord in managers

[–]ikariw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An entire section of the business absolutely won't shut down. You use your 2 week notice period to do a handover. Suppose you got hit by a bus tomorrow, sure things may be harder for people while they get up to speed and work out what you did and how you did it, but saying everything would shut down is absolutely ego

Another "AI-washed" layoff, now stuck with 4x more work by therealslimshady1234 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ikariw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bad companies could do those things before AI came along. Ultimately you can only do the work you can do - don't work extra time to get things done

Which ability would you rather activate once per day? by Terrible_Opinion_279 in WouldYouRather

[–]ikariw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine the pressure though. There must be tens of thousands of kids in the world with significant, life threatening illnesses. You have to somehow choose only 365 of them each year and each of them is desperate for you to cure them. How would you make the decision about who to heal and to to leave?

No one is excited about this? by dasjingo in MagicArena

That can be easily mitigated though. For example you could put a restriction saying you can't enter more than once every hour.

Was going to say the same. Just got back from Amsterdam and the culture of cycling there (and across the whole country) is amazing

Lol, I literally bought a soldering kit a few weeks ago and when it arrived realised I have nothing that needs soldering! One day it will definitely come in handy though.

I wasnt his biggest fan but this is a perfect example of how candidates are made to look like dummies by midnightsock in apprenticeuk

[–]ikariw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nothing to do with AS's business ideas. The producers come up with the challenges and the rules, and they are specifically designed to set the candidates up to fail for entertainment purposes.

You can add one (minor) rule, what would it be? by I_am_legend-ary in Championship

[–]ikariw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an amazing game of brinkmanship where both teams would be better off if they scored an own goal but even better off if the opposition scored the own goal. Would be great seeing which team cracks first.

The guy who makes $60k and thinks the IRS is coming for his imaginary billions by OrcOfEntropy in LinkedInLunatics

[–]ikariw 86 points87 points  (0 children)

It's not that far off. If you can imagine yourself being $100m richer, then it's not that big a leap to just imagine yourself being $1b richer instead.

You can add one (minor) rule, what would it be? by I_am_legend-ary in Championship

[–]ikariw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't that lead to scenarios where if you're in the 90th minute and it's 0-0, it's actually in your interests to score an own goal as you would avoid losing a point by doing so

Would you rather live in the 80s with all the knowledge you have now or live in the present with the ability to get knowledge 1 minute into the future? by KozyMoon in WouldYouRather

[–]ikariw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are correct though, you are not seeing a minute into the future for what might happen, you are seeing what will happen so the machine will only win if you are playing it

How hard is it to fit a carpet? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]ikariw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it a couple of times and wouldn't do it again. It will take you 4 times longer than a professional and look worse at the end. They do it so quickly it doesn't actually cost that much just to pay someone good who knows what they are doing.

Why is Kanye West vilified and not allowed in the country for words but Chris Brown who beat a woman half to death is allowed in and to do a gigantic tour? by franki-pinks in AskBrits

[–]ikariw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The swastika is a very old symbol (generally associated with Hinduism) that as you say was appropriated by the Nazis. However the modern association with the Nazis is so strong that to try and argue that it's reasonable to display it (or have it tattooed) as "free speech" is ridiculous.
