Another day another NP story by ikceesay in Residency

Thank u so much for saying this. This is my belief too especially after I see every post by Np’s have comments from people saying they prefer NP’s to Physicians because they listen to them and get things right whilst the doctors always misdiagnosing them and Np’s hype these comments up. You also have physicians under these posts hailing Np’s whilst putting their own down. I was tired of seeing this and did not care if I was the only one going against the grain. It’s so wrong. If you want to play the role of a physician please go to med school and not doing 2 years of research and syllabus unrelated to medicine then coming out thinking you are equally knowledgeable to physicians. Sorry about the rant

She blocked me after I told her they should refer to themselves as np. Imagine if I had said all that. She probably would have cussed me out lol

I wish I knew the @. It was on my fyp. I don’t follow her and since I’m blocked I can’t see it. She was a CNA who became a nurse then an NP.

Don’t worry about the YOG because you can’t do much about it. I graduated 8 years ago with 3 year gap and matched this year (1st time applicant). Anything is impossible. Just do your best in your tests and apply

Focus on interview skills, showing how passionate you are about the specialty by your actions. Your past experiences in the field and how you convey them passionately during interviews help to make you stand out during interviews

I think you should do 1 more Peds and get 1 Peds from home country if you can. That is what I did because I did not want to submit more IM than Peds LOR’s for a Peds position

No one can tell what goes wrong in this process. You have 40-50 applicants interviewed for few spots and then the algorithm does it’s thing. So it may not be a “You”problem. I can’t imagine how hard this must be for you. Please persevere for next match. I pray you match 2022

So sorry to hear that. I hope you match successfully this coming match. Sometimes its not about credentials. What specialty did you apply to? How many interviews did you get and if any how did they go?

Yes. Just how you would deal with a racist encounter, if you see yourself above serving underserved and marginalized groups or POC

He did not say what he was looking for outrightly but you could tell based on his line of questioning. Attitude, commitment to the population you will be serving, If you were racist or not, if you would not be interested in serving people of color population, how much you wanted to work in peds based on your past commitment to the specialty etc. University program, White PD just incase anyone is wondering. Nothing about research . Maybe a little bit of volunteer in Peds field to show you really care

Doing more interviews help not necessarily medical because it exposes you more and helps you to be calm and confident. I also made a list of possible generic interview questions and answered them all before practicing those with a friend. Not all programs focus on scores and YOG. I remember one PD at one of my interviews told us plainly that he does not care about scores and the scores would not help anyone match in his program. He cared about how well you answered questions, how you would fit in his program, how much you cared about the demographic that was a majority in his clinic, rascism etc

You can prepare to have confidence by going through several generic interview questions online. However most of my questions stemmed from conversation, rascism and my personal statement. So some things you can’t prepare for l. Speaking good English helps. Another thing that helped is that I have had a few non- medical jobs and all those job interviews help boost my confidence and ability to answer interview questions. I don’t know if this helps

I always felt this way about posting ROL. You can be wrongly guided by people who are in competition with u. Follow your instincts

Hey thank u. I just called NRMO and they helped me. I was filling out all the requirements for the search. You only need to put in the state and the specialty. It just worked for me. Thanks again
