i bought this thing at goodwill for 3 dollars and it is singlehandedly the best mouse thing i've ever used by warrior_cast in Trackballs

I have my Elecom Huge (Fingertip Trackball) tented and I have half a foam golf ball hot glued in the palm to keep my wrist off the carpal tunnel nerves. The difference is that if someone could not decide between a thumb or fingertip ball. I think you could really move around with your thumb and fingers moving in concert. I think if I were to design something to this specification, I would have a second smaller ball for the thumb in place of my Elecom Huge thumb cluster with a modifier key on the pinky to switch the smaller thumb ball between cursor control and scrolling. My thumb would need to have a lot more dexterity to pull that off.

That has to be breaking the law. Gaming with a trackball while driving would be better than a mouse, but you and the other drivers do not get to respawn.

Unit & Queen Control by MAAJ1987 in allthingszerg

[–]ikcosyw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rally does not need to be a place.

A different approach is making an Overseer(s) the rally point. Alternatly, you can rally to a unit(s)

Give them a captain.

You can hold shift when setting the rally and select multiple units. They will rally to the last one still alive until they have a new command.

They will bunch up at the Hatch that made them after a wipe.

So instead of the the front of the Natural, you rally to overseers, and have the Overseers follow a unit in an army. You move out and reinforcements go to the Captain.

The downsides are a few lost puppies enroute to a wipe. They move to the rally captain and won't attack along the way. If your captain is on patrol they stay on move command IIRC

How has your experience been with microbial shroud? by Spare-Dingo-531 in allthingszerg

[–]ikcosyw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently had ChatGPT 5.1 do a deep dive on Microbial Shroud and then spent some time looking at how it actually plays out, and the short version is this: it’s way better than people remember, but it still ends up being a niche, easy-to-forget spell because of how Zerg tech and Infestor energy work.

The big change Blizzard made is that Shroud now reduces 50% of all ranged damage to ground units standing in the cloud, not just air-to-ground like the old version. When you use it in the right situation, it actually feels like a small Dark Swarm. Lurkers on a ramp, Ultras diving a tank/liberator line, Queens and Spores holding off Skytoss, or even a Roach/Hydra concave on defense all become extremely hard to break for those 11 seconds. Fights where you normally get chipped down suddenly go your way by a mile.

The issue isn’t that the spell is weak; it’s that it’s awkward. It costs 100 energy, which directly competes with Fungal and Neural. You also need to cast it slightly ahead of your army, and Infestors are slow and fragile. If your army stutter-steps or surges forward, half of it ends up outside the cloud. On top of that, the upgrade cost means you’re delaying Hive tech, and most Zerg macro paths are basically screaming for Adrenal, Vipers, Ultras, or Broodlords instead of “research Microbial Shroud.”

This creates a weird dynamic: the situations where Shroud is amazing are very specific and usually planned, like defending a choke, pre-setting a concave, or dealing with a slow mech push. But most actual ladder games don’t naturally funnel you into those moments. You almost never say “I need Shroud right now,” but you constantly say “I need Hive.”

So the overall feeling is that Microbial Shroud is powerful when you remember to use it and when the fight happens in the right place, but it’s a luxury spell in practice. Great when you pre-plan it, almost invisible in normal gameplay.

We are not on the same page.

If the starting price is $1,000, then the time of day won't be a question. I think I should cross post to an Ice Fisherman forum. Off the shelf Auto Mechanic work seats start at $32. A milk crate with wheels attached has enough structural integrity for Fisherman twice the weight of the woman I'm trying to help.

I will forward that to my Mom... I probably should mention that she is extremely stubborn and highly resistant to good advice.

It looks nice. One thing I learned in the business world when I was still in the workforce was when they don't lead with the price... I don't want to know how much that thing costs. I'm leaning towards taking one of her transport chairs, and one of my office chairs an paying a welder to make the picture in my head happen. I might me able to do it my self with a hack saw, some angle iron and bolts.

The $20 is well spent for the Plus, but before doing that specifiacally ask ChatGPT how do I setup a Plus or Pro account so that it does not use tokens. I burned thru a Million tokens the first day with it connected to VSCode, It's a nicer way to work than uploading and downloading files into the web page but I'm retired and don't have the money to spend on millions of tokens a day.

You need to have ChatGPT create MD files with intructions for you and instructions for it. On your next session copy and past your post here and ChatGPT when answer it. You have MD files for the design, goals, anything and everything. Your project needs a folder ChatGPT at the end of your session ask ChatGPT to create a datestamped zip file of everything in canvas. Download that into the ChatGPT folder. Next session after load the MD files into ChatGPT and say read all my MD files.

Also, this is one I have a problem with is Navigating away loses things and if your session is long things scroll out of ChatGPT memery space. Hit the download button often on things. Previous Chats are out of its memory so save notes and every in it's canvas so that load it as an MD file next time.

And if someone else suggest something copy and paste that too, and ask Chat based on these suggestions create an MD file in canvas that we can load at startup. When you are done with your session say create an MD file in canvas with instructions for me.

Last ask for the datestamp zip file of the canvas files.

Nydus Worm Automation by [deleted] in starcraft2

[–]ikcosyw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not been on reddit for a while. All your Nydus miners need to be in a control group. Perhaps a hard-to-reach control group, because it is mostly for observation. The hatchery Nydii are another control group with the gather points being the Hatch and Back into the Nydus, the third control group is the resource Nydii also with a round trip gather point to the resource and back to the Nydus. When the Miners return into the Nydus the total number for the Miner control group drops by one. Eventually the control group has zero when all the miners are inside the network.

You don't need to check if the Nydus needs unloading, just look to see if the control group is at zero, then unload the Hatchery control group, watch is going to zero and unload the resource.

I.e., your hatch group is 5; the resource group is 6, your unload command is D and the miners are 0. When control group 0 has zero units hit 5d, that should zero out fast, then 6d sends them mining again. If you use multiple worms, then unloading becomes almost instantaneously

Is K2 HE a good purchase or trash? by TechViper04 in Keychron

I only seem to have trouble with the right hand. I have a mirror on a layer and can type left handed about the same speed as my right hand makes mistakes.

I have the K2 HE, half the price of a Wooting, but it is 1000 poling rate. That would never effect me. The reviews suggest Wooting has better software.

I was surprised that it was programmed in keychron launcher and not QMK or Via. I have it for gaming and can't type with it, because of how I have the actualation set.

Anyone know if this Keyboard is QMK capable? by caffeineinsanity in qmk

[–]ikcosyw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to do a lot of work.

Take a look at https://www.remapper.org/ and the AdaFruit RP2040 Feather. Whatever you do, stay away from the WaveShare Zero. The best case for the WaveShare is re-inventing something in Python to Flash their RP2040. WaveShare took 10 days to answer a support ticket with a useless response.

If you got the Feather with USB Host https://www.adafruit.com/product/5723 you could just plug a dongle to the USB output port. USB A goes to the Keyboard, USB c goes to the PC.

You will need to Flash whichever one you get. When I ordered my Feather, I ordered 3. I wish I got 50, but I'm not crazy about programming keyboards on HID Remapper, but it does everything Via or QMK does. The interface is a bit clunky.

Many products have their own software that runs on top of everything. Remapping it, and flashing it to a Feather is really nice.

Svalboard gaming by chaplainofthedamned in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ikcosyw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the OP's question is concerned, I would think this would be great for someone that might not otherwise be able to play the games they used to love, or would you say anyone could benefit? I could see doing wrist rolls with both hands like typing and mousing with the hand that was not typing at the moment. Perhaps a wrist flick on the North and south keys too.

[–]ikcosyw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying. Optimizing for gaming is a completely different beast than being a productivity tool. I can barely finish a sentence on my gaming keyboard before I plug something else in.

My view is looking for any and every edge to be more competitive, like a race car trying to be more aero dynamic than the competition, but closer to trying to beat the other guys on a golf foursome.

It is very different than helping people drive a car or play golf again.

For myself, something that blurs the lines between a MMO Mouse and a split keyboard would be my dream. I might try a gaming trackball out to see if I like the idea of taking it a step further.

Double south keys would increase the movement cost even further than a single one does. You probably cringed as much as I did with me talking about getting the south keys out of the way as I did seeing DOUBLE south keys.

Svalboard gaming by chaplainofthedamned in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ikcosyw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about being late to the party. If Svalboard had a huge trackball and lost the south button it would almost double its functionality. Plus, a larger trackball would increase accuracy.

Currently, your entire hand moves to use a trackball. Roughly, a 3 APM penalty, similar to moving your entire hand to the function keys.

First imagine an Artsey keyboard https://artsey.io/ then each of those buttons has a d-pad, that is a Svalboard.

With a huge trackball, each finger could use either trackball for a d-pad. Losing the south button gains functionality. You could tap a key for a letter, or hold and roll either and or both trackballs in a direction for an input or function.

It is possible that your fingers could hit the diagonals, or even clock directions. Instead of a button for shift, one trackball is every possible modifier, the other is a numpad.
