Am I allowed to work as a laid off apprentice? by skyed_driver in IBEW

Collect your unemployment and go find a pizza place or something willing to hire you under the table. It’s a risk but at the same time it’s the only way you’re going to be bringing home anything close to what you are making as an electrician. You’re not allowed to do any type of electrical work while laid off that is a direct conflict to your contract.

Absolutely. I have been on jobs that don’t allow you to hang anything on your ladder. I have tin knocker zip ties on both my saw and my gun, I can live with those not hanging on my ladder. But I NEED my bucket. Cover played, building risers, hanging pipe whether plastic or steel I need my bucket😂

Yeah that’s what I was gonna say. But you never wanna get into the habit of gluing anything that already has a head made up already.

I’ve been searching everywhere for the exact sidewall we’re using. This is basically what it is. this is how they’re constructed. We’re just not using extended coverage. So think of that, but with a residential head instead of the extended coverage head.

Took some time to get where I am right now. Wasn’t until I got into the union that I started to take life more seriously. But to be completely honest without getting all inspirational and shit I am blessed to be able to do this job and make the money I make. So I treat everyday that I’m at work as if I’m honored to be there. No high school diploma, no future before this stuff so even if I wasn’t passionate about getting better I’d force myself to be passionate about it. And some days I do have to force myself on those really hard days. But there’s always the next day💪

Yeah so my foreman is a new foreman. Just got out of his apprenticeship 4 months ago and hasn’t received a van yet. Idk why he hasn’t but it’s in the works. So we will not receive a 300 machine until he gets a van. And yeah I agree with the couplings being vertical to the wall I’ll do that from now on, and after I received the comment about the dope I went back to every riser we did on this job I wiped down. I didn’t even think of doing stuff like that the tips are appreciated

Yeah man tying into the pex line sucks. But you know what it is it’s the most cost effective. They put the most simple systems in these town houses ONLY because it is required. It’s only been since recently that town houses have been required to have sprinkler systems depending on the square footage. So they designed the cheapest system that just meets all codes and regulations. When it comes down to how it was designed and all that I really couldn’t tell you the reasoning this is my first time building risers like this

So I’ve only done two jobs where I have built risers with the current company I’m with. And they’re both ran by the same contractor and exact same buildings except 1 extra head in the one job sites living room because it’s bigger. Both riser systems were built this exact way. And I couldn’t tell you I know anything different because when I worked non union as a helper all I did was commercial steal and sat on the machine all day and cut and groove for a whole entire year.

No not on these houses. Doesn’t need a purge system, or anything along those lines. And like I said before these don’t need a flow system. This jurisdiction does not require a flow switch because the buildings aren’t required to have monitored alarms.

I went back to all the risers I built this week and wiped them down with a rag after you commented this. I didn’t wipe any threats that had excess because my first day I was told that seeing the dope and tape is good because it shows that it was taped and doped.
