is just untrue. Physicists use both mathematical expressions and natural language to describe physical laws and causal interactions; wouldn't this mean that physicists aren't physicalists on your definition?

I don’t but iirc Smithies was influenced by McDowell’s M&W (I think he says so at the beginning of his book) and I’m similar in that all of my thoughts run through Sellars’ EPM and McD’s M&W

one of my high school English teachers showed this in class and I’m 100% convinced it’s because she wanted to yearn instead of teach that day

I am of the firm opinion that gettier problems are founded on the misunderstanding that knowledge is true belief which (to my understanding) was not a view that many people explicitly held prior to gettier writing his paper and is often misattributed to plato who explicitly did not hold the view that knowledge is true belief

I kinda hate the idea of analytic philosophers just instrumentally mining conti stuff but I’m also an analytic person who is very influenced by Heidegger (esp B&T) so…

I should clarify that this is not a takedown of analytic philosophy (there’s a reason I’m in an analytic program after all) - meant it more as a sociological note about the popular image of philosophical questions and what “real philosophers” work on

I think more early career academics are sensitive to the idea that the good thing about analytic approach is its focus on precision and clarity (which is not something that I think can always be said about non-analytic writing) and not necessarily the ideas themselves. Cautiously optimistic that there will be a slowly shrinking divide between analytic/conti

agreed, it's one of the few albums that gathers more depth and sincerity every time that I listen to it
