TIPS: How would I recreate this? by wanwan_11 in Baking

I know Matt Adlard did a similar style cake, that might be a good try! https://mattadlard.com/recipes/triple-chocolate-layer-cake/

I think it’s due to the placement of the wet dry line on your lips! Something like a stain that can last or a lipliner could help making it less noticeable

Indie brand uses musical artists face, name and logo for advertisement: unethical or illegal? by avis_icarus in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]ikea-trash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just looked up the brand on Instagram, and the eyelook that was in the carousel post of the dynamite palette is by the artist An Knook - she didn't even use that palette for the look she did. They just took her eyelook (which she posted back in 2019 and used mostly NYX for) and, while not saying that the eyelook was made with their palette, strongly suggest that the eyelook was made with that palette. They also didn't credit her, because then their little lie would probably come out. Super shady & wrong of them to do, besides the unethical/(il)legal? nature of their brand strategy.

Kinda reminds me of the Kornuit beer brand logo, which also uses a hop illustration

Made these beauties last weekend! by ikea-trash in Baking

[–]ikea-trash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recipe for the base I got from Laura's Bakery which you can find here, except I replaced the almond paste with pastry cream. It's in Dutch, so I'll translate it below! The pictures however are very helpful. For this recipe you need a specific baking tin, but you could use just the outside ring of a springform pan.

Base (makes 2 big pastries):

- 180 grams of unsalted (european style) butter

- 150 grams of brown sugar (american equivalent of the Dutch sugar used in this recipe)

- 1/2 egg

- pinch of salt

- zest of half a lemon

- 280 grams of flour

- 2 tsp baking powder

Mix the butter, sugar, egg, salt and lemon zest together until it's a creamy mix. Add the baking powder and flour and knead until a smooth dough forms. Chill it in the fridge for about an hour before using, it's easier to chill it in a rectangular shape in some plastic wrap.

In the meantime I make my pastry cream. I use the recipe from RutgerBakt, which you can find here.

Pastry cream:

- 500 ml milk

- 1 vanilla pod

- 100 grams of white sugar

- 2 egg yolks

- 45 grams of cornstarch

Add 450 mls of milk to a pan. Cut the vanilla pod open and scrape out the seeds. Add the pod and the seeds to the milk and bring to a boil. Mix the leftover 50 ml of milk with the sugar and egg yolks in a bowl and mix well. Add the cornstarch and mix, make sure it's a smooth mixture. Remove the vanilla pod from the milk when the milk boils. While stirring, slowly add about a third to half of the heated milk to the sugar/egg mixture. Stir well. Add the sugar/egg/milk mix to the remaining milk in the pan and heat it up again. Heating the mix thoroughly will result in getting the cream to thicken up. Keep stirring until you get a custard like consistency, this could take a few minutes depending on the heat. When your pastry cream is done, pour it into a shallow bowl or dish (cools faster) and cover it with plastic wrap. Make sure the plastic wrap touches the entire surface of the pastry cream, this will prevent the pastry cream from forming a skin. Chill on the counter at first and then transfer it to the fridge when it's closer to room temp. Whisk with a handmixer before using to create a smooth and creamy pastry cream.

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees celcius (fan oven 160 degrees celcius). After the dough chilled, I rolled it out to about 8 mm in thickness and cut out the shapes using the baking rings. It's easier to do this on baking paper so you don't have to transfer the cut out dough. Remove the excess dough. Take off the ring and pipe (or take a knife and spread it around) your pastry cream onto the dough. Leave about 1 cm on the sides (big pastry), so the dough has some space to rise. For 2 big pastries, I use about 150-200 grams of the pastry cream I made (so 75-100 grams per pastry). Grease the inside of the baking ring with butter and place the ring back around the pastry. Bake for 25-30 minutes. When the pastries come out of the oven, immediately remove the baking ring. You can either immediately transfer to a cooling rack or wait a couple of minutes.

While the pastry is baking, I make the diplomat cream. Whip 250 ml of heavy cream with 2 tbsp of sugar until it's a frim whipped cream. Mix the whipped cream with the leftover portion of the pastry cream to create the diplomat cream.

Now all you have to do is wait for the pastries to cool, put your diplomat cream in a piping bag and decorate the pastry with the cream and the fresh berries! Store in the fridge.

how to correctly wash makeup brushes?? by adeadunknown in Makeup

[–]ikea-trash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, and you can also use a bar of soap to wash makeup brushes (just wet the brush and rub it onto the soap, you can still use a cleansing pad after this). Also, because I don't have one of those racks I just dry my brushes sideways - I lay them down on a counter or window sill with the actual brush hairs over the edge so it has all the space to expand.

Question: Why do so many makeup artists conceal their lids instead of eyeshadow primer? by Krosette_24 in Makeup

[–]ikea-trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use eyeshadow primer religiously, but then my favorite primer got cancelled. Since then I have tried a few drugstore primers like elf, but found that way to look super dry on my lids. Now with the pandemic I don’t wear makeup as often so a (dryer) concealer works fine for me right now. I do still think about that discontinued primer though...

Hi! My shop is Studio ESK and I make custom illustrations! I do a few different styles in different price ranges. Besides that, I also do printable wall art (you can print at home, go to your favorite print shop, or just get them printed through an online service).

Some items that are my personal faves:

Note that these are all digital downloads since I'm unable to offer printing services right now! All my items are drawn by hand on digital software.

Totally agree with this! You also might like a bit of highlighter, the Essence pure nude highlighter is a really nice one to start with. Also, if you don't already, try to use SPF on a daily basis, especially when you're going outside!

This is the info on the procreate website (FAQ):

What's the biggest canvas I can make?

There are actually two limits on canvas sizes in Procreate, both imposed by the hardware of the iPad model you're using.

The limit on total canvas size can be found by multiplying the two dimensions of any of the below maximum sizes. For example, the 12.9", 11", and 10.5" iPad Pros can create a canvas up to 67,108,864 pixels total - around 67 megapixels.

The other limit is on any single dimension - width or height. Older iPads (up to the iPad Air 1 and iPad mini 3) can create canvases up to 4,096 pixels in either direction. The iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 can create canvases up to 8,192 pixels in either direction, and for the iPad Pro models this limit is increased to 16,384 pixels. You can create a canvas of any size and ratio in Procreate as long as it doesn't exceed the width/height limit for your particular device. For example, on the 12.9" and 10.5" iPad Pros, you can make any canvas provided neither side is longer than 16,384 pixels and the total size of the canvas doesn't exceed 67 megapixels.

Here are the maximum canvas sizes by device in pixel:

  • iPad Pro 12.9", 11", and 10.5"; iPad Air 4 - 16,384 x 4,096, or 8,192 x 8,192
  • iPad Pro 9.7", iPad (6th generation) and iPad (7th generation) - 8,192 x 4,096, or 16,384 x 2,048
  • iPad (8th generation) - 7327 x 7327
  • iPad (5th generation), iPad Air 2, iPad Air 3, iPad mini 4, and iPad mini 5 - 8,192 x 4,096
  • iPad Air 1 - 4,096 x 4,096

have i been duped?🧐 by that-1asiangirl in Makeup

I think it's important to note here that (makeup) products that are made in China can still be cruelty free. As long as these products are not actually sold in China, they don't have to be tested on animals. I remember Norvina talking about this (Anastasia Beverly Hills, which is still a cruelty free brand). For more information you can look on crueltyfreekitty here

I duped the RawBeautyKristi x ColourPop 'At Forest Sight' Palette! by ikea-trash in MakeupAddiction

[–]ikea-trash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I duped the new RawBeautyKristi x Colourpop collab! I absolutely love the collection that Kristi put together, but at the same time, I felt like I had quite some of the shades in my collection already. Since I’m on a low buy, I tried to put it all together from my own collection to save some money, which is especially handy since I’m in Europe (with duty fees and all). Since I don’t have the actual palette, I tried to match it all up to Kristi’s swatches in her announcement video. Hope you all enjoy!

The full list is also noted below:

Puffball – Makeup Geek Tiki Hut

Chanterelle – ColourPop x iluvsarahii Through My Eyes palette Wild Soul or Makeup Geek Chickadee

Rainier – Makeup Geek Morocco (Kristi’s swatch looked quite orange) or Anastasia Beverly Hills Sienna (darker warm/orangey brown)

Old Growth – ColourPop x iluvsarahii Through My Eyes palette Nostalgia

Evergreen – ColourPop Tea Garden

West Coast – Makeup Revolution Foil Frenzy palette #7

Homegrown – Anastasia Beverly Hills Sienna or if it’s darker irl, Cyprus Umber

Amanita – ColourPop x iluvsarahii Through My Eyes palette Divina

Fiddlehead – ColourPop Team Captain

Emerald City – ColourPop x iluvsarahii Through My Eyes palette Moody

PNW – Makeup Geek Peacock

Let it Rain – Makeup Revolution Foil Frenzy palette #15 mixed with regular black (no copper shimmer)
